*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

My daughter gets posion ivy bad, and she went to the doctor awhile back with it. He told her alot of people think that scratching it spreads it, but that is not true. I why people think it is because it can take up to 7 days for you to break out in the rash after being exposed to it. So you may not be done yet:)

I've heard alot of people say, nothing feels better then scratching poision ivy, that is until you get it raw.

I was the one asking about it the other day, I had some on my back, but didn't know for sure if it was posion ivy. I didn't know you could get it this time of year, and it didn't really itch that bad. It may not have been PI, but it went away rather fast.

"Hon, can you take a picture of my eye so I can post it on the internet?"

She would probably be relieved that you were asking for a picture of your eye.

There's some stuff that my husband found out about called "Tecnu" that really works to keep you from getting Poison Ivy or stop a flare up if you've already got it. We have one of those portable sawmills, so he cuts trees alot and alot of them have tons of poison ivy growing all over them. You can rub this stuff on beforehand if you know that you're going to be around some, or rub it on after you know you've been exposed. It's supposed to deactivate the poison ivy oils, which is what makes it spread so bad. That's why people think scratching spreads it. It's not the juice from the bumps that spreads it, but the oils left on your skin getting spread around by scratching it.

"I was making so much noise (like the big O) that someone in the office hollered "stop that or you'll go blind".

At it again, huh?

Is it a prescription, or OTC? My daughter may be interested in it.

...This morning I let very hot water hit the areas in the shower. Lordy, lordy, I was in heaven!!

I always used to wonder why that felt so good, then somebody told me that the hot water causes your body to release histamine, which makes it itch worse for a while, but then you use it all up and it stops, at least until your body builds up some more histamine. So you get a few hours of relief after doing that.

...It's pretty expensive right?...

Not really, maybe 4 or 5 dollars a bottle, but it's well worth it when compaired to the misery you go through when you get a bad case of the itchies. Wal-Mart carries it down here where I live and I'm sure most other chain drug stores do too.
