This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
eek, yeah, I'd hate to have a trailer tire go on me in the middle of the woods like that. That's an adventure that's best left alone. :-)
Agreed. We wanted to try to find a spot higher on the trail that goes to the highest peak, somewhere it crosses a road where we could pick it up and cut off some of the distance. It's 30 miles round trip from the other trail heads, and it's a lot of climbing.
Probably a silly question but can the horses walk on the road or would you have to keep them on the grass?
"Heh are you a jockey? I ask because I had a jockey friend who pressured me for a long time to get out on the track. I'm about 5 feet with shoes on and weigh 100 pounds soaking wet. What was really embarassing was that the jockey was about an inch taller than I am. Hehehe. :-) "
NO, But I tried to be! I know jockeys who are taller. Jerry Baily, Gary Stevens, etc.. Isn't it frustrating? I have people telling me I should be a jockey, but none of those people helped me try to do it LOL!!
Noggin is a little sore. Sorry about the tire. You did get some nice pictures. I thought maybe, you went on a trail ride today.
No cause yet. That is really sad. I am going to go over to the show tomorrow, after I get done shooting. Maybe take some pictures. That was a nice web site someone put together for them.
Afleet Alex won. It was a super exciting race. He just blew away the competition.
Yeah, the part about her taking off her shirt and covering the mares eyes was so touching.
Bay wouldn't have had too much trouble on those roads, but they're hard... I wouldn't want to ride on them a lot. I'd say they'd be hard on Cyn because she's barefoot, but she's never gotten ouchy on them yet.
We wouldn't want to really ride on the roads much... after all, off road traffic can come, and fast if they're young and goofy.
We were looking for places near where the trails cross the logging roads where it's nice and wide enough to park the trailer and turn around. We didn't find any we could get to today.
Girls are a whole new ball game aren't they? I think the fathers' of girls should be issued shotguns when they pick up mom and baby at the hospital.
I think God takes special care of the folks that don't have the sense to take care of themselves.
It looks like maybe she's broken it or has another tooth pushing it crooked. That's not something I've ever seen but I would have it checked - especially since it's making a difference in her eating behavior.
Oh my, I hope your head feels better now. You didn't have a very good day yesterday it sounds like.
Strange , isn't it? I thought maybe she got kicked and it came loose and turned but the top flat. I don't think it's broken. Just weird looking. I'm going to have it checked. She is supposed to have her first float in July. I'm still waiting on him to come give the west nile and rabies so I'll just push the floating up a bit. I don't think it bothers her though. She just compensates. She eats.
Sounds like you had an interesting day - what caused the rash of flat tires, do you know?
If the tooth isn't bothering her, waiting until July should be fine. It just seems something is off since it's changed her eating.
Have a good night. I'm off to bed, it's been a long day.
Night.
Sorry to hear about the tire but glad to hear that everything worked out ok in the end. It sounds like there may have something in the road for both vehicles to have flats like that. I hope you find a good parking place closer to the high country trail coz we'd love to see pictures of it!
On another subject, Blade went to his new home yesterday. We were hoping to get to meet up at the Forest and ride, but with the Tropical Storm coming in, there was just too much rain. It pretty much started Friday night and hasn't stopped to speak of since. Nothing serious, just lots of steady rain. I'm not complaining, my pasture grass was toast. Anyways, she and her husband just drove up to my place with the trailer and picked him up. He got in her trailer just fine but he kept looking at me through the escape door. It was all I could do to not cry, but I told myself I wasn't gonna and I didn't. I know she'll love him as much as I do and will take good care of him. I haven't talked to her since she picked him up but she's supposed to e-mail me some pictures of him meeting his new pasture buddies on Monday. All my other horses were ok with him leaving because they're used to him leaving on trial rides, but Bob seemed to have questions when I didn't bring him back for supper time. I know that sounds crazy, but that seemed to be the way he was acting, you know what I mean?
Good morning, I am glad he's in a good place.
I wouldn't have razzed you for a tear or two... :~)
