Practice makes perfect.....post on....
I have to tell you about the 1st program for the PTA last night. Jax had picked out the dress she wanted to wear on Sunday, so yesterday I made sure all was ready - unfortunately when she got home from school she informed me she had to wear red, white or blue (the dress she picked was purple).........I was like a chicken without a head because I could not find the boxes of clothes I packed up last fall.........but fortunately for me a kind FRiend had sent a care package a few weeks ago in which was contained a red dress with white polka-dots, paired with navy tights - she fit right in:)
Obviously the theme was patriotic....Jax speaking part was a poem about George Washington along with a song about him. I had no clue/hint what the rest of the program would be. The whole thing was very cute as only 1st graders can be wehn singing such songs as the National Anthem and America the Beautiful.
But the finale was totally heartwarming and tearcausing. They recited a poem of honor and tribute to the heroes and victims of 9/11 and the War on Terror.....and then asked all members of the Armed Services (called by branch) as well as police fire and EMTs to please stand to be honored. Each person who stood was presented with a small American Flag by one of the children and then they all sang Lee Greenwood's Proud to be an American.
I can honestly tell you there was not a dry eye in the gym.
I love the Junk Science web site.
Oh, how sweet.
It really was.
One group did a line by line explanation of the Pledge of Allegiance, including the line "one nation under God" saying that line means God has blessed America. Remember, this is a public school;)
it sounds adorable and very touching.
good one! A++++
Hubby is going to be so happy when he gets home from work - the county just came through with the equipment that cleans out the ditches and cuts the grass on the road side. He was lamenting yesterday that he was going to have to do it today because it has gotten so over grown.
He wasn't looking forward to it because we have 500 feet of road frontage and not much of it can be done with the riding mower.
They have been out here for weeks doing just that. Good news for your husband, that couldn't be a fun job.
I've seen them in other parts of the county and have been wondering when they were going to get around to doing this road.
The most unfun part of the job - which I normally do every weekend is picking up all the trash that has been tossed during the course of the week.........I didn't do it this weekend, and so now it's all shredded and is going to make it that much more time consuming *sigh*
Yeah, we live near a park and I pick up stuff a lot as well. I also swept the streets along the curb to get rid of the road sludge left from winter.........(sigh....... At least winter is gone and we can concentrate on spring and plan for summer.......
living in an...earthwatching...part of the country, there are groups that volunteer to pick up trash, in fact many roadways are adopted by these groups and they are responsible for their cleanup, like the kiwanis club etc. Xsbrownie's troop did a portion in FC one year. and they also use the JAILBIRDS to do the work, they bus them in in their orange jumpsuits and have them picking up trash on the chain gang : )
Yes there is a silver lining in them dark clouds :)
A 5th piece of equipment just came through and this one had a long arm on it and mowed down the inside wall (my side) of the ditch.
Speaking of preparing for summer - I need to make a trip up the road to walmart for more garden staples. I ran out, but still have a couple 100 more feet of black plastic to get put down........I want to get plants in the ground this weekend.
It's the same around here. I know a family that just goes out and does it each year as well. They have their own little system going for the chore, which involves gardening as well. It's a shame there are such slobs that need cleaning up after all the time.
Wimmen have orgasms?
They needed a study for this?
I have done extensive research and can indeed confirm this fact. ;)
Way to go!
Lots of groups have "adopted" roads around here as well.
Lately there have been lots of letters of complaint in the papers about all the trash and nothing has been done about it in ages. In fact a petition with a couple 1,000 signatures is being presented to the Board of Supervisors tomorrow, asking among other thing for the Sheriff to reinstate the use of the inmates. Nobody seems to know why that stopped.
When we first started coming down here before we moved seeing the orange suited chaingangs was a common sight - haven't seen them in ages.
