I loved Anne McCaffrey when I was in high school.
Not long ago, I picked up Dragonsong or Dragonsinger or similar, and found it puerile, juvenile, and steeped in obnoxious apostrophes.
Pity, since I do remember really enjoying her stuff back in the day.
