Word For The Day, Friday, May 13, 2005

Friday, May 13, 2005

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Dodgeball Day!

Subbie Slip has given her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs to xs today.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

It's actually 2.2 square miles. LOL.

It is a little wierd - when the kids go out, I tell them, "Just don't leave the city."

That's just it-there is no city-just a rural community-most homes are on nearly an acre or more, except for the gated communities and there are a large number of very large ranches within it, as well-the road we live on ends at the gate to one. The closest service station is nearly two miles and the general store is almost 3, with a couple of restaurants and bars in between. But the nearest boat launch is just over 1/2 mile, and the closest marina with gas, launch, bait and beer/food is less than 2 miles...

Hey, if you are a fisherman, tell me how to catch walleye-we have them in this lake in the deep, cold parts. A guy I used to work with from the city has caught some right here at the bottom of the cliff we live on (it is over 130 feet down there, with cold springs at the bottom), but he didn't tell me how to catch them. He did say they are delicious, though-I saw a picture of one at the marina down the road, and it sure is an ugly thing...

ummm....don't act like you live in some idyllic small town american town, pal. between the Asian gangs and MS13, the deadly latino gang, Falls Church is not what i would consider all that safe.

I have heard vague rumours of Asian gangs don by 7-corners, but I don't know what that other thing is.

Merrifield, clearly, is not in FEWFC.

But you are right - I had not heard of it.

there are asian gangs in falls church city, and there are stories of gang related activities going on in Cherry Hill Park. i heard this from another mom after we discussed the fight there and attendant police presence. There have been STORIES in your little FC rag commie paper about MS 13, lambikins. i would not have a false sense of security if i were you. it is not like when you grew up there, by any stretch. and bc you go through life fairly clueless and unaware of your surroundings, you may not realize it. but like i said, i know people who live there, it is not idyllic.

When I was a kid, the biggest crime wave to ever hit this town was my brother. And we put him in jail...

Inform yourself. MS 13 is a HUGE problem in northern VA, including FC.

i realize that JEB Stuart is FC but not FC city, but if you think that is a meaningful distinction, well then, ok... you can pretend.

There are gangs in Falls Church-how can that be? Surely the earth watchers will spank their hands and run them out for polluting. Every time I see anything about Falls Church in print, the author makes it sound like exactly that-an idyllic small town.

there was a murder by asian gang members right on the streets of falls church a few years back. i recall it bc it was what i referred the woman FC cop to where her time might be better spent, searching for them, rather than the minor traffic stop she got me for cutting through to avoid a red light....

The problem is that Falls Church City is the little 2.2-square mile gated enclave with the really good schools, surrounded by a much larger area of Fairfax County and Arlington, all of which has Falls Church mailing addresses.

So when you hear of the terrorist mosque is FC, it is actually in fairfax, miles from FEWFC.

Same with the TV show JAG - miles outside the city.

The "Falls church sniper" was actually only a few hundred feet outside the city.

You made the crime report, BTW. And telling cops things like that can land you in jail.

gated enclave

OMG, is this your ego talking again? GATED ENCLAVE? you are out of your mind. there is no gate around FC city to keep the good stuff in and the bad stuff out. you are dreaming, pal.

yeah, this week. hey, i don't live there so it doesn't matter to me. but my only suggestion is that when you send your kids out on the streets of FC city, that you be a little more attuned to reality. FC city is immune to NOTHING.
