Well, they went and did it.
The Republicans look like they will wimp out, not exercise the so-called Nuclear Option, and Harry Reid will PERMIT two judges to be approved and disapprove four others. Does anyone think for a second the Democrats won't "go nuclear" in a heartbeat if the roles were reversed?
This seals the deal for me. I am a Republican no more. It seems it does not matter if I vote Republican anyways, all I get is more liberalism. I am a man without a political party. I am a conservative without a home.
Between Bushes enthusiastic embrace of illegal immigration, and our party's inability to get even moderately conservative judges approved, what's the freakin' point of voting Republican any more? What's the point of voting? I will get liberalism no matter how I vote. My main issue is guns, and it appears the Democrats have learned their lesson on that one, so it appears I will be safe on the firearms front. Everything else the Republicans stand for, they stand for in word only. They do not seem to want to act. Therefore, I do not seem to want to vote Republican any more.
This is my Opus -- not from Free Republic, but from the Republican party. Even when they have the majority, they surrender.
The Republican Party is the France of politics.
Alas, I can't help but agree with you.
I could never vote for the opposition, if you mean voting for a dem to spite the GOP candidate...
Our choices aren't easy...but giving the dems the chance to screw up everything else is not one I can do in good conscience...
Here's the PH #
Sen. Bill Frist, MD
fax (202-228-1264) telephone (202-224-3344)
I'm registered (R) but don't vote for Snowe or Collins here in Maine. Support ALWAYS goes for individual candidates, or effective advocacy groups (e.g., Swift Boat Veterans). I would vote for an (R) as the lesser of two evils, but ONLY if I think the (D) has a chance of winning.
The parties themselves are insiders' clubs, 100%. The parties cannot be trusted.
Sending them back in the BRE costs them money. Even if it is just a few cents.
Don't you have to study for your US Citizenship test, in between criticizing Conservatives for being Conservative?
While doing this, they have slowly slid to the left, in trying to appear more 'centrist', that term being defined by none other than the Democrats and Socialists who don't care who does the heavy lifting as long as they accomplish their agenda.
That leaves the Republican Party too far left for my tastes, and little else for a party option which does not enable the Dems to win elections.
I continue in hopes of moving the Party to the right.
IMHO, we have entered the era of vocal grassroots politics, thanks to the internet (and particularly to people like Jim Robinson and this site, among others), but wimpy, weasely, politicians need not apply. I'd love to see someone in office with the stones to stand as strongly for their stated agenda as the Dems shamelessly do for theirs.
We allegedly have the majority, I just wish the Republicans in Congress would stand up and act like it.
Screw the MSM, get the job done, and their constituents will love them for it.
I'm a man I can change ...If I have to I guess
Besides that the word "but" does appear...it's a prayer...not an oath.
Believe me...I live by that prayer!!
LOL!!
Looks like many more conservatives are dissatisfied to the point of leaving the Republicans than you are willing to admit.
Stick that in your conformist pipe and smoke it.
There's your new tagline.
Thought you might. ;-)
Riiiiiiiiight.
You are a RINO, and thusly your lack of dissatisfaction with the behavior of the party.
Heck I'll post a thread and let all of FReeperdom know.
Hmmmm..perhaps Sen Frist may negate your plans RE:
This reminds me the story where the last two conservative members of the Episcopal church are sitting in the pews and during the processional this big ol' golden Buddha is carried down the aisle and placed it on the altar and the people start worshipping it and the one conservative leans to the other and says "One more thing like this and I'm outta here."
Irony can certainly be ironic sometimes. You are going to leave the party over something that hasn't happened.
I suspect that he's watching the polls more than the votes. He wants to be President, and I think that if he thinks "going nuclear" will allow the media to sink him, he'll back off.
In my opinion Frist, like Bush Sr., Trent Lott, and so many other Republicans, is more interested in governing (i.e., staying in office) than reforming. I share Lazamataz's revulsion at all this.
as long as you're not leaving FR
