I came back through Seattle once and San Francisco once. After each trip back I served long tours stateside with other Nam Vets. Never knew one who said they had been spit on. Doesn't mean it didn't happen, I'm sure it did, but I doubt that it did as much as the myth that is being perpetuated. Many of those who make up stories about Nam and getting mistreated when they returned are right out of the characters documented in "Stolen Valor."
I wasn't spit on either. I was just called a baby killer. I guess that won't count in this 'spitting contest'.
Yeah, not many of us stayed on campus long enough to become faculty. BTW, that was where I was called a baby killer, in one of our fine, liberal, tolerant academic institutions.
