THERE ARE 20 IBIZAN HOUNDS IN OMAHA NEBRASKA
IN IMMEDIATE NEED OF HOMES!
These wonderful dogs, some of whom are AKC champions, have been removed from bad living conditions near Omaha NE. Prospective adopters/foster homes and transportation is -desperately- needed!
The dogs are currently being held at the Humane Society in Omaha NE. Some are in poor health due to lack of proper care and there are 5 5-week old puppies also. Most are adult dogs of various ages and sexes. 10 more dogs were not surrendered by the "owner" and I don't know if they'll also be available, pending more investigation by the HS.
If you or anyone else you know would be willing to offer GOOD homes to these rare and special dogs, please use the contact information given below:

Most of these of dogs are sisters/brothers/aunts and uncles of my own "kids". Some of the dogs on the page may actually *be* the dogs available since they're not telling us *which* dogs were taken or whether or not some of them are even alive anymore.
I have spent the night posting this everywhere else I could think but I *hope* FReepers would be the first in the adoption line. I want them to have the -best- homes possible.
Thanks to everyone for putting up with this "vanity".

I volunteer for a rescue group, so I can relate to this story. I applaud your efforts and wish you good luck in finding these animals good homes.
I can't take a dog, but I will once again make my little effort to help with this huge problem by posting a little rant.
AKC "papers" are a total absolute unmitigated fraud. Don't ever pay money for a dog because it has "papers". The whole horrible puppy mill business, and resulting huge population of unwanted dogs, is the direct result of the AKC and its promotion of the alleged value of the fraudulent "papers" it sells. Anyone who has ever paid money for a dog with "papers" is part of the problem.
I get really tired of hearing about "responsible breeders" and "AKC champions" (which, as we can see here, often live in, and breed from, puppy mills). There is no such thing as "responsibly" breeding more dogs, while hundreds of thousands are homeless and being euthanized (usually after suffering neglect and/or abuse for some time).
Breederville ping.
I really, really wish I could take one. I adore sighthounds and I have been devastated by the recent death of my old greyhound from renal failure. Hope these guys find great homes ASAP.
You need a new dog Ping!!
You are obviously not part of the problem. If all dog lovers took the approach you take, there wouldn't BE a problem.
I just get my rant button pushed every time I see a suggestion that a "rare" or "special" purebred dog might somehow be more desirable as a pet than any other kind of dog. However unintentionally, it tends to promote the mindset that fuels the overbreeding of "purebred" dogs.
Over the past few years, I've seen two of my neighbors (both dimwits) and my boss (definitely not a dimwit, except in this narrow area) pay outlandish amounts of money for "purebred" dogs (ranging from $1500 to $2200), and then rave to me about all the supposed "special" or "rare" qualities of these dogs that justified the outlandish prices. None of these people had bothered to set foot in a shelter to see all the wonderful dogs about to get put to sleep there, or to call a breed rescue group to find out about all the dogs they're desperately trying to find homes for. And the breeders (or brokers, as was clearly the case with my boss's dogs, though he didn't realize it) run off and buy expensive toys with their latest fistful of cash, already dreaming about the cash and expensive toys they'll get from the next batch of dogs they breed sell, and eager to perpetuate the myth that these dogs are so special that they're worth paying lots of money for and much better to have than some "mutt". They don't give a hoot how many of the dogs they produce end up neglected and/or euthanized in a shelter.
One of the boss's dogs is an especially vicious Maltese, that snarls and bares it fangs through its flowing white locks, at anyone other than my boss and his wife -- they have to lock it away whenever they have guests over. You couldn't pay me to have that dog in my home, but you guessed it, that's the $2200 dog.
Keep up the good work!
If I didn't have two big dogs and three cats, I would adopt at least one of these wonderful dogs. As it is, I have passed this information along to other dog lovers I know. Thank you so much for all you do for these sweet creatures -- praying they find wonderful homes.
I can help!! I have emailed the 2 contacts as indicated - just in case my assistance is needed.
I run a tiny little Sighthound rescue group in WA State & could most likely come up with a half dozen foster homes for these hounds, if that is needed or even logistically possible.
I am here if need be - with sighthound-savvy foster homes!!
Sincerely,
Jenya Campbell
