There is no "death FReeper crowd". There is only some dissent and call for careful proof of facts that was missing in the Schiavo case. There is a deperate need for a rational, factual debate about medical end-of-life issues and medical ethics in this country. But there are many who don't care about the facts, don't care what unfounded allegations get passed around as fact, and don't really want to engage in debate that would help us figure out exactly when and how medicine should give up hope in hard cases.

Many people left the forum because of this debate, not because they want to see people die, but because they were called shrill names for wanting reasoned and rational debate about issues.

make no mistake that there is a "pro-death" agenda in this country.

people who think there even needs to be a "reasoned and rational" debate about whether to kill an innocent woman by dehydration and/or starvation speaks volumes about how these people view life.

some people believe it's vital to stop courts who sympathize with the "death activists". it's ok for some people to sit by and engage in "reasoned and rational" discussion until it's someone they love that's being killed. then what will they do ?

"There is no "death FReeper crowd". There is only some dissent and call for careful proof of facts"

Very nice summary. Thanks.

The whole idea of "proof of facts" seems to be rather elusive for some reason. For example, there is not absolute proof or it isn't a fact that she was bulimic.

Doctors have offered "educated opinions" about the bulimia based on the facts that were present.....and it is a fact that that they did so.

Similarly, is it a fact she was PVS? The various scans, responses to stimulus etc. add up to what some doctors define as a state of PVS. Other doctors say there isn't enough factors to conclude such. Accordingly the courts make a judgment as to who they believe and render accordingly.

What makes it even more difficult to grasp the nature of what's going on is the peculiarity of the info that is available.

People offer remarks without any attribution to the source or a link to a document.

Some have offered "official affidavits" and people take the words as gospel in the absence of any corroborating info.

There seems to be a "selective leak" of information. For example, if her med records were sealed, how did the bone scan come to the public when clearly stamped confidential patient info? How did her supposed brain scans come to the public....there are no markings to indicate they are actually hers?

Sometimes passionate people believing in the most noble of causes actually do more harm than good. This seems to be the case here on several levels IMHO.

If by this time you have not seen the overwhelming clear and convincing evidence, you are not only blind, but you don't *wish* to see. Poor excuse you're citing there...it doesn't fly. Argue the case before the Lord one day, it's not anyone here you need to convince.
