Just got in from riding Harley. I'm glad I got it done, looks like it may rain some more.
I can't remember who was asking about AIing a mare the other day. I forgot to mention that I asked my vet the other what it costs for the owner of stud to collect a specimen. She said there is a one time expense of buying a "boot" for the stud. Every stud should have their own, and they can be used over and over. The there is usually around $150-200 charge for the vet to do the collecting. Depends on how easy the stud does it:).
IMO, I didn't ask, but I would think the owner of a mare wouldn't pay the owner of a stud much more then just a stud fee. I never thought to ask how much a vet charges to AI a mare. I'll try to remember to ask today. Mack wants me to ask how long a specimen is good for??

I think they're good indefinately if they're frozen, but not very long if they're not. I know that when my husband and I were going through all this mess for infertility, they had you collect a specimen and you had to keep it at body temperature until you could get it to the lab. They would let you take the specimen cup home to collect so you didn't have to do it in the lab. It was kinda funny, here you were driving to the lab with a specimen cup tucked under your armpit like a mother hen with her chick. Sheesh, I'm glad all that's over with! ;o)
