I was figuring the cost of hauling vs, the vet coming here. It probably costs about $4 in gas round trip, to go to the vet I'm using today. But I use to use a vet a lot farther away. When I used him back when I had 4 horses to get there for yearly stuff, I scheduled them to take 2 at a time a week apart. If I had to do that now with the gas prices, it might be just as economical to have him come here, except he didn't make house calls:).

Another advantage to taking a horse to the vet is they usually have stocks to put the horse in, which restrains them enough that they don't have to be tranquilized to do what ever has to be done. Saves money on that too. My old vet very very seldom tranquilized. He'd float teeth and everything. If vets come to your place to do that, they always tranquilize.

It's a shame he isn't close enough where you could ride to get there.

That way, you could ride AND take care of the vet stuff at the same time. :-D

We had people that floated who were separate from our vet. They never tranquilized, but then again they were sturdy guys and could take a knock or two.
