Becky, were you cleared to be missing today? Where are you?
I just made an appt for our vet to come out in the morning. They're due for shots, and a report of birds with West Nile in our county reminded me of that. This is actually among the first reported cases in the state. We hadn't had it here yet. The horses started getting immunized last year though.
So they are getting the regular 5 or 8 way vaccine and West Nile. Is anyone else on the thread, who is not at a boarding stable or showing horses, vaccinating for strangles? I'm gonna ask the vet about our risk.
Is the strangles vaccine called flu-rhino?
Love the photo of your horse, it is so good!
Our vet is due this June, and I was going to ask him the same question you have just asked. Someone has told me that having them vaccinated doesnt mean they wont get it as there are different strains. Not sure on that one, so I'll leave it to the vet when he does everything else, to let me know.
Our farrier/trainer has retired from the business, so we are looking for another farrier. Sigh.
The kids are going back to school tommorow, they got deaconjim some t-shirts for his birthday, which he has already has been given.
I'm in a "don't feel like doing anything" mood today. : )
We are going to vaccinate the horses that are used in endurance. On rides all horses are sharing the same water trough, hay piles, etc. so it is a concern. Will not vaccinate the others unless something changes.
Yes, I am. I trail ride alot where there are other horses and figured better safe than sorry.
