"Why would someone do that?"

It's done across the board on racehorse mares. Evidently, when they run, they suck wind in there and it can cause problems. It's called a "Caslick's" procedure. Unless you're in the racehorse industry, it's not commonly known that this is done, unless you buy a former racehorse mare. I did, Juma's momma was on the track and she had a Caslick's, which I had to have opened before her due date. She was artificially inseminated so they didn't have to open it at breeding.

A former Amateur Trapshooting President was killed from a fall off a horse. Did you happen to hear about this?

He was in Alabama participating in a field trial on Feb. 23 when his horse stepped in a hole and Mr. Racke fell to the ground. A blood clot developed in his brain. He had been hospitalized for a couple of weeks prior to his death. The Alexandria, Kentucky resident was 64. I don't know what I'm gonna do about Sarah Lee. Sigh.

Sat she got an injection of baytril

Sun her temp 103.

Monday her temp 103.6 and I couldn't get my vet and started her on tucoprim

Tue he said he would be out and bring me more tucprim. He didn't show up and the house vet gave me SMZ. Her temp now 101.6 and she's so much better

This morning we gave her a 2nd dose. My vet just drops in. I call to update him and he's gone. Finally about 4 he calls and says she's getting better and gave her more baytril. When he's at the barn he's good as gold but on the phone he acts like he has ants in his pants. Anyway he told me the sulfa won't hurt her but thinks the baytril working and told me to stop the SMZ and if she starts getting sick again to start her back. I was uncomfortable with that but my husband and I got into a fuss caz he said I was vet shopping and why use a vet if I'm not going to follow his advice. It wasn't like that though. I couldn't find him and I told him what I had done. Then my husband calls me back and says maybe I was right and we should give it to her a few more days or just half dosage. We talked and both agreed that wasn't a good idea caz we could get a super bug so...we wait and see. I don't know

if the baytril kicked in

if it was the sulfa

or if the disease has just run it's course
