I'm back in sFLA after one helluva trip home. Tore up the rear end in my Jeep. $1600 for a new one. The gray went lame and I still don't know for sure what his problem is. Gave him bute, soaked the foot in Epsom salts and finally pulled the shoe on the lame hoof Sunday checking for a hot nail but didn't find one. The hoof around the toe was a little soft and he would flinch with finger pressure in that area so I figured that he has a stone bruise. Coated the bottom of the hoof with turpentine and put on an easy boot. Give him a few days and see if he gets any better. My neighbor, who is a good hand, is going to stop in and check on him and if he ain't no better towards the end of the week, he's gonna haul him to the vet and get an x-ray. But I'm purdy sure that it's a stone bruise and they take about two weeks to heal up.

Man, I hate to hear that about your Jeep. What happened?

Sounds like you've got all the bases covered with the lameness. One of my mares got a stone bruise that turned into an abscess. The farrier opened it and I soaked it but it still ended up working out at the coronet band. After that, she was fine. Aggravating though.

Boy, that's a bummer. I'll keep my fingers crossed it is a stone bruise.

My farrier showed me the mark of a stone bruise, it's a thin red line right on one side of the white line of the hoof wall. He sees them all the time. This is working ranch country and horses work very hard.
Does anybody know anything about Old Mac's Multi-purpose boots? Speaking of Easy boots. I am thinking of trying them for the occasional times I ride the gray mare. Her feet are good and I leave her barefoot.
I have had trouble with Easy Boots not staying on.
How did you terar up the rear end in your Jeep? Sorry to hear it.

Sounds like you are having bad times too. I hope your horse gets over the lameness soon.
