The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FIVE

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Sorry to hear about your momma. Praying for you and your family. I haven't figured out the details yet about if we soul sleep or what for awhile but I like FIABs thought.:')

I don't even remember the last time I got to ride.

Today when I was picking Winnie up from the vets I asked the vet if I could give Winnie ace every day, to keep her from bouncing around the stall. He said, "you could but let me give her a longer acting tranquilizer so you don't have to give her shots every day. It'll take it a couple of days to kick in but once it does the effect lasts 30 days." I almost crapped my pants, a tranquilizer that lasts 30 days??? No wonder so many people get cheated on nutty horses. Unscrupulous horse sellers probably buy that stuff by the caseload.

I've heard of anti depressants with a long life but not a tranquilizer. Huh.

~blinking~

Need coffee! It's pouring out, and it has that 'all day rain' look about it. We had thought about going on some kind of drive, like up to the Skagit Tulip Festival, but I think it'd be a miserable day for it.

The tulip farms are quite a sight though:

Wow, that is really neat:)

We are thinking of going on the bike to Muskogee to Honor Heights Park to see the azaela's. They should be in full bloom now.

Is that like a farm that sells the blubs?

Is that quite a ride to get there? Skagit Valley is about 3 hours from here, through and past Seattle, so it's a big decision if we were to go. I think it'd be best to wait for a day in a year that it isn't raining during the bloom ;~D

Yeah - they're growing the bulbs to sell next year, the ones that are selling cut flowers never let them get to that point.

What I like is when there is a whole field of one color, like red, and out there in the middle is one white one. Heh...

Muskogee is only about an hour, probably less on the motorcycle with Mack driving:)

Heh..sure does. Around here if you see a dozen in one spot it's something. Hard to picture what that looks like live.

Honor Heights Park, and some spots of mass planted tulips. Nothing like those fields, but still a lot more then what you normally see around here. But they may be done now for this year.

More of the same all around for miles ;~D It's pretty neat. You can drive by whole fields of one vivid color on the left, another color on the right ;~D

I think you're a couple weeks ahead of us to have azaleas now. Most of our azaleas and rhododendrons will bloom in a few weeks to a month.

Good Morning

It is going to be nice and sunny here in NE Ohio and I plan on riding today with a woman from the barn. We tried to go out yesterday and never got beyond the outdoor arena. Waylon was spooking at the least little thing and I didn't trust him on the trails. It was his first time outside riding all yr. Hopefully today will be better and I can fit in a trail ride

I guess it's just not something they advertise, with good reason.

You know, every time I've gotten a prepurchase exam, I've asked for bloodwork to check for drugs. I guess it never occured to me that the drugs could be nearly 30 days in the system.
