This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I just stepped barefoot on a mouse carcass the cat brought to the porch for my birthday.
Smashed it, and it stuck to my foot.
Glad to hear you got to ride on your trip. Too bad about the supposed "gaited" horse. I would imagine that any gaited horse that ends up in a dude string didn't have a very good gait to begin with and then putting people who don't know how to ride on him all the time just makes it worse, and after a while it gets to be a habit that's very hard to break. But at least you got to see some beautiful scenery. The cabin looked awsome!
YUK! That has got to be the NO.1 worst birthday present ever.....I have goose bumps just thinking about it!
Aside from that, I hope you have a great day!
Heeheeheeheehee.
The pic below is the latest progress on my barn, back in March. It's kinda hard to see, but there are more poles in the ground. Going home again next week, but it's turkey season so I'll be spending some time in the woods trying to get a tom. Hopefully I'll have a picture of that in a few weeks.
It could have been worse... it could have been alive when I smashed it. I squeeked bad enough, I'd have hated to hear it squeeking too ;~D
Here's to good progress on the barn ~and~ to getting a turkey when you get home.
Oh, yuck:)
We just found out that Charlie has the disc to upgrade Windows 98 to Windows 98SE. He has run home to get it. We are going to try that. You think that will do it?
~cossing fingers~
Becky
I sure hope that does it!
98SE is still an old program, but sometimes it's not worth upgrading if it's been working well for you.
OUr computer does everything we need it too up to this point. Just being able to have pictures, IMO, is not worth the expense of getting a new computer.
Worse comes to worse, I can use my kids cameras, load the pictures from their computers to my host site, then be able to post them to FR and e-mail them from mine.
Becky
That sounds like a lot of trouble, and I hope you can get a solution better than that. ecurbh said having 98SE will do it... that is the edition that started recognizing USB ports.
Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday Dear Hair,
Happy Birthday to YOU!!!
Be glad you can't hear me singing, it's not pretty.
I ought to combine turkey huntin with ridin. I don't know if they got turkeys where you are and how much you've been around them, but they are very wary birds. They'll come to you if you're real still and well concealed but it's almost impossible to walk up on them. So, last year I was riding through a place where I sometimes hunt and walked right up on 4 hens and a big ol' tom and they didn't seem the least bit nervous until we got about 20 feet away and then they flew away.
It's gonna be sunny here today... looking forward to going out and trying out our new camera.
So having that disc, and loading it on will be enough...there isn't anything else we will need? like an operating system program??
Becky
We don't have turkeys here, or native pheasant for that matter, but I have hunted pheasant at game dept release areas. I think it's too wet for their young to survive planted adults live, but they don't reproduce enough to keep a population.
I've also seen turkeys from horseback on the mule ride through Arizona years ago. My dad used to hunt them when we lived down there.
That disc should be the update to your OS that you need to get the printer working... There may be other patches that would be available to further update, but maybe they aren't available anymore at the MS site.
With that, I'm hoping your other software that came with the printer will work.
It's gray and overcast here. Gloomy day.
I have to get major housework done today. Our bunko group has already fell apart. City people...:) So us country girls have decided to go ahead and get together once an month a play something, or at least just eat:) I guess we're doing it here tomorrow night.
Becky
Give me a call.
Becky
I have to get our house cleaned up for company this week too, but since it won't stay clean more than 30 minutes, no sense cleaning too early! RosieCotton from the hobbit hole will be visiting here this Thursday. She'll be in town for her brother's wedding. So my target is to spend Wednesday on the serious cleaning, but I am sure there is something I could be doing today.
Hmmm, well that didn't last long! Just started pouring here. :(
It's real changeable... that shower went through, now we have sun again, but it's still chilly and soggy out.
