The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FIVE

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I am so glad (and green with envy!) that you had a good time in kentucky and Tennessee. Your cabin looks lovely! We hate Gatlinburg too, so noisy and busy, I don't like Helen GA for the same reason.
We are staying first on the Tennessee/Kentucky border at wwwtomthallcabin.com and the second week we are staying at a cabin much further north into kentucky, below and to the East of Lexington. Should be a great trip!
The kentucky Horse Park looks like a great place to go, I will remmeber that when we head up there.
I love Kentucky and really feel at home there, thats why when we go, we will be looking at real estate.
Glad you had a good time, are you feeling better?
Sharn

Good morning!

It's going to be wonderful outside today! 80* and sun. And..........

Markie promised to ride Rei for me, if I allowed her, yesterday, to go mud runnin' with Kelsi!

Woohooo!

I'm gonna try and convince her to 'test drive' Candi. LOL.

It looks like rain here today. I am suppose to ride this afternoon with a neighbor. A lady who I don't think rode her horse at all last year. She called yesterday and wanted to ride but I had plans so we set it up for today.

The forecast is actually calling for some severe weather late this afternoon.

Becky

Hey Becky, you're right about the severe weather and they are talking very severe so keep your eye on the sky. Already dark and gloomy here but the bad stuff isn't supposed to get here until this afternoon. I don't think tornadoes are in the forecast but large hail is.

Stay safe with the weather if you do decide to ride.
Good Morning, It's going to be another nice day here. Now if someone would just lend me a horse, I'd be all set. :-)

LOL... 4-wheelers.(ATV's) They know all the local mud puddles and they race through them. The one who has the most mud caked on them, 'wins'.

Sounds like your trip was fun. When we went down to Lexington to get my horse last yr I loved it. Can you believe the size and opulence of the horse farms? It is something else.

Our maple sugar festival was snowed out last week. Goofy weather in NE Ohio. Yesterday I rode outside and it was in the high 60's.

Am patiently waiting to hear from my barn builder as to when he is getting started. I would like it done and finished by Memorial Day so I can go down to our cabin and spend a week. Our cabin is sitting just like the one you rented. high atop a hill. Ours is a 2 bdrm but doesn't have the tall windows etc. yours did. It looked wonderful. Glad you had a good time.

I just caught another Southern phrase. I read these posts and asked my husband "when "dija" say we were going to the lake?:')

The plan is the last weekend of April. There is a snag though. The Walton family wants to come to!

I remember one year here in Ma we got an April Fools Day snowstrom. It was a big one too. Mother Nature can play dirty sometimes.

That is So Cool. Do you have a lot of ATV trails out where you are? We have a problem with ATVs/dirtbikes scaring the horses when we're out on the trail. (I'd run away too if I saw one of those things playing chicken with me!)
And by the way, what a deal... Getting to ride after going ATV'ing sounds like a sweet deal to me!

I remember going down the highway from Lexington to Lousiville or vice versa and seeing all the horse farms. They're so huge and spread out that it's almost impossible to tell where one ends and the other begins.

To get to my house you go 8 miles down a county road. It used to be such a nice drive. Now we have a desalination plant and a new county jail. There used to be farms and pastured horses. Now most have been sold and broken into tract lots. Why someone would want a nice house that close to the jail a mystery to me. We are going to have to look further north in the county. You can't get nice acreage at reasonable prices around here when people will pay 20-30000 dollars for a lot. Horse ranches and farms getting choked out. Sad.

At the price of FedX or UPS shipping you could buy two horses probably:')

There was a county jail/correctional facility in the town where I went to highschool. Any time an inmate got loose, things would go into lockdown. Kids weren't let out of school, parents were put on high alert, etc.

And the best part is that the number for the facility was one digit off from the local pizza place. One day a bunch of us called up and asked for a delivery, and the guy there said: "Pal, you don't want any deliveries from here!"
