Both - I have NO idea how the CPU got loose to begin with, but my best guess is someone kicked my machine - namely kids. Now I have a very good reason to finally put a lock on my door. Grrrr....
Or maybe it'll encourage them to all get a *real* close look just before the big one. Most efficient.
