Never had the chance to shoot or hear the .22 Jet; it was a rare breed in the early days and even moreso now. I have heard that the blast was all out of proportion to 'a .22'. That must have been something else, kinda wish I was there. :-)
I can only rate it as the second-most-unpleasant handgun I ever shot. You actually felt the muzzleblast on your face like it was a rocket launcher. And it was still loud, even with ear plugs and ear muffs.
My cadidate for the worst-shooting handgun, ever, goes to the Astra 900. It's a 1930's-vintage straight blowback handgun in 9mm Luger. A locked-breech handgun lengthens and buffers the recoil with its mechanism, but with the Astra all you felt was a sharp smack in the palm of your hand as the slide slammed back, and propelled the rest of the gun into your hand. I gave it back to my buddy after emptying one mag.
On the other hand, it took me 50 rounds of .44 Mag maximum loads before I noticed a problem. The recoil seemed okay, but I noticed blood on the grips. Two of my fingers rubbed the skin off where they touched, and I was bleeding there.
My real payment in pain came the next day, and the week after, when my carpal tunnel pain came back with a vengeance.
