On Boston radio, who's the funnier host, Howie Carr or Jay Severin? Howie mentions FR all the time, on his radion show, Herald colum, and links to FR on his page. Jay Severin on the other hand seems to be at his best when taking on Hillary and Ted.
Howie would have a bestseller if he put his thoughts about the Boston mob(s) down in book form. I too enjoy his knowledge of Boston crime history.
Perhaps, but how often is one of those segments aired, every three to six months? I haven't heard one in about two years but I don't listen every single day either.
Plus Howie allows the audience to participate in 60% of the show unlike Jay's 5%.
LOL, so true. I cringe when a caller self identitifies as one of the " best and brightest".
One problem with Severin is that he is invariably wrong on his big predictions. Accroding to him the last two Presidents should have been McCain and Kerry.
Another is that he claims to be a libertarian but he is pro choice. I have nothing against libertarians but I find pro choice libertarians right up there with anti gun conservatives.
Jay Nuke'em has a lot of problems but he is good on the SCOTUS and their penchant for ignoring the Constituion. So, in that way he does a service. But he could do that service absent the faux bs and be that much better.
All in all I prefer Howie Carr on the drive home.
Jay did say that the Red Sox would win the World Series all along, even when the Yankees were ahead those 3 games, Severin insisted it would turn around. Maybe the Red Sox were listening?
You've all inspired me listen to Howie. My mother is never wrong, afterall. Even knowning that about my mother, there are lots of times I don't listen to her :)
"I wish I could tune him in here in Buffalo"
You can listen to Howie on the web thru a link at WRKO.com. the problem is there are only so many listening slots available and it's hard to get on. the trick is to get on a few hours before his show (i usually get a connection around lunch time) and just mute the computer till 3pm.
I will have to try that, Thanks..
BTW, when I googled Howie Carr around 1998 (the verb form in that era may have been "altavistaed") about 90% of the material about him on the web had to do with his feud with morons who ride bicycles in downtown Boston. The morons were furious with him, then even as now.

As I'm sure Howie would say, "Great minds think alike", I can't stand those bike morons either.
Hey Howie any Bickford coupons for all the nice PR?
I prefer Howie, by a big margin, over Flattop Jay. Howie's funny while Jay seems more than a bit arrogant.

Wizard of Uhs ("Uh-uh-uh? that's 3 Uhs Uhhhhh-that's

I used to love when Howie will fill in for Jerry ("Good
afternoon New England, this is Howie Carr of the Boston
Herald and I'm filling in for the Dean today") and it was great Howie eventually got his own show.
