Jeepers.... He doesn't look that bad to me, by your standards there's two classes of horses, world class competitors and meat.

The lady just wanted to sell her horse, she's not wicked, and the horse isn't that bad. He's not a push button school horse, and he's not perfection at 5 figures. I think he'll do just fine for someone.

Nobody's saying she's wicked or that the horse is (necessarily) a candidate for the canner - she's just asking way too much for what she's got.

Around here, a ten year old horse with some conformation problems, no real training to speak of, and a long layoff is going to go for around 1200, plus or minus depending on what the vet says. 800 is a little on the lowball side, but if you say "MAKE AN OFFER" in the ad you're going to get some skinflints cruising for a deal, if you don't want that don't put that language in the ad. (Folks are going to offer less than you're asking anyhow.)

I'd never buy a horse from a photo though. Even a movie would be better, but I want to get my seat in the saddle and my hands on him.

Old saying: "It's better to feel regret that you DIDN'T buy a horse, than that you bought one."

Well, to my uninformed eyes he looks like a nice horse. Off the track doesn't mean he laid up for years, he could have been racing up until last year.

Only problem I saw at all, photo and description is a very little girl whose head doesn't come up to the horse's withers so probably feels very uncomfortable on top of him when he's feeling good. She can obviously handle him fine from the ground so he's not at all mean or unwilling.

Again, JMO, I don't own jumpers.

This has been fun to talk about, it's too cold and muddy here to ride.

I think what AmericanMom and I are saying is that it's the combination of things that make him not a good horse. I do think he's a nice looking horse but his conformation sucks and going by the sellers description, he's got some serious problems that will take a considerable amount of time to work out.

It will be close to impossible to match that horse up with the right person. People with the experience to handle the horse will be put off by his price and conformation. Inexperienced people will be put off by his behavior. Not much left. She was a sucker and now she's hoping to find another sucker.

Hey, Hair. Do you mind if I post a pic of the new horse? It might be rather upsetting to some.
