*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Previous threads:

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - thread ONE
The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!
The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

I think it's fun to consider this, if you all are willing to think it through... There'd be lots of arrangements to make, but maybe fewer arrangements than farming the animals out all over town.

I've got one more call out to a friend who I might be able to talk into staying here... but I wasn't thinking that was hopeful. She lives in another town but commutes to this one to work, so I thought it'd be good for her to spend a week here, but she's turned me down before. She has a bunch of collie dogs, and though I've told her she could pack them all up and bring them here, she's kindof stuck in her ways.

OK....is there something we haven't thought through? Your thoughts that have ya worried?

As far as arrangements go, we have to make transportation arrangements. (that's it)

She arrives at your place, you have a list of what the critters' schedules are, you explain.

You come back home, inspect, and send her back home here.

I don't consider this a fun thing to consider. If you're like me, the horses(critters) are a serious concern. And, I HAVE to feel confidence in the one I leave 'in charge' of their care.

I'm sure she will do right by you and will leave you 'impressed'. But, I hope you'll pray about it for your final 'answer'.

You know, I'm not a bit concerned about the care they'd get with your daughter. The fact that she'd BE here all the time, rather than just a feeder tossing food and leaving again is an incredible peace of mind.... especially for the dogs.

We are still musing over our options and looking at flights. Too bad flights are so much that she probably can't find a friend that can come. To come alone is one level of fun, but it might be even more fun to have a buddy along.

How old is she? Would she want to have access to a vehicle to drive? We could leave her our truck.

Would she want to ride? I think if she did want to be able to do that, we'd want to make sure care was taken to get her here an extra day early so we could have her work them under supervision at first... and solve concerns in case she got hurt that she could get help, since she'd be here alone. Also of course we'd worry about liability, as much as you would worry about your daughter. We'd both worry, but I'd sure like for her to have fun too. :~D

Certainly she could lunge and do ground work on any of them... maybe she could improve Cyn's lunging :~D

What are you both thinking about it?

We'll look specifically at a few flights if you want to move another step forward.

Take a little time to pray and meditate.

She's here for ya, if you decide.

When we were still at home, she's the one who looked after the kids, the horses, the dogs, the chickens, the homestead.

Dumb as it sounds, leaving her in charge, was like ME staying home in charge. TOTAL PEACE.

Hair.....I'll answer your post. AND I'll FReep mail ya our phone number/email so you can talk with Markie. Give me a time when you can call and I'll make SURE the computer isn't on-line.

ON to your post ...

Yes, it would be fun for her to have a buddy along to 'share'. BUT, she doesn't NEED a buddy, and she is 'self-sufficient' enough, that she would find 'fun/satsfaction' in doing this, by herself. As her Mom, I have NO misgivings about sending her to do this.

She's 17.(going on 30) She wouldn't need your truck to drive unless your land is so large that it's hard to 'run it'.

YES, she wants to ride. We can do that 'extra day early, under supervision'. LOL... she KNOWS what it's like to be a 'yard dart'.

LIABILITY is for those who DON'T know horses.

Talk to me about lunging. We've never done the 'lunging routine'...but yet all our horses are perfect in ground manners/ respect/safety. However, if you want lunging done, all you have to do, is explain to Markie, WHAT you want done, and she will do it.

Thanks.... Lets think about it through tonight, let us know what you find for flights that are acceptable times, airlines, and connection complexity that you'd feel good about it, and how much they are.

The other lady did finally show up, and she seems nice enough, but not showing up till 2:30 when she said she'd come first thing is flaky.

You guys never lunge your horses? Interesting! No - they don't need lunged, it's just a good way to get to know horses that are unfamiliar, you can get a good feel for their behavior and how they move from watching them.

Our land isn't so large at all, just 7 acres, and there is a little store right next door if she wants things, and we'd stock the fridge for her, but if she wanted to be able to go do or see anything nearby, she'd have to drive.

No.... we've never lunged our horses. NONE of them. And NONE of them came to us 'broke'.

7 Acs isn't much..we had 10. Markie would go out and run our land JUST so she could 'play' with the horses. LOL.

Gotta run.... one of our friends just showed up with a 'problem'.

OK - I've sent you other FRMail to consider and I'll talk to you later!

Markie should get a login here and introduce herself to the group so she can post during this grand adventure... if she chooses to :~D

ecurbh reassuring Homer about our upcoming trip. It was such a pathetic and cute scene I had to take their picture:

That dog is a very old soul, I think.

To: HairOfTheDog; All
Markie here.

I'm 17 years old. I absolutely LOVE horse back riding. Ask my mom, if I go a whole week without riding I go through withdrawals (lol). I also draw, which is a hobby I think (know?) that I can do better at, yet I'm too lazy to try to do better.

I'm going to try to see if my QH/Arabian, Mr. Bo jangles, is capable of running barrels, if so I plan on running him a few times.

I like riding in any kind of weather. This winter I was riding in weather that was FREEZING and windy. Sure I froze my butt off, but it was worth every minute.

I like any sort of animals, but horses are extremely special to me. There's just something special about them. It may sound corny, but there's something almost magical about them.

I'm having a writer's block at the moment, so if there's any other questions for or about me, just ask and I think my mom will tell me about them.

I'm going to try and figure out how to send a private message, when I do I'll send one your way Hair.

HEAD KNIGHT: We shall say 'nee' again to you if you do not appease us.
ARTHUR: Well, what is it you want?
HEAD KNIGHT: We want... a shrubbery!

So can you help them find one that looks nice and is not too expensive?
By the way, I'm not sure if anyone has posted something similar.

A shrubbery it is then! Yeah, I was watching a kid all week who had a cold, passed it onto me, and then it kind of went down hill. I have NO voice at all, barely a whisper at a good point, sometimes a squeak. So maybe it isn't just the flu.
