*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

I'm going on a trail ride. I just haven't decided where:') I was going to one in Mason but it was cancelled. I got my Tetra Talk last week and there one May 12,13,14,15. May be too long to get off work but I like to multi task and it caught my eye since that's where my mom lives.

There is also a charter event in Whitney Aug 4-7. Since I don't have an active charter and also have property in Brownwood they gave me permission to charter hop where ever I want:')

It's in Lockhart. Is that close to you? I saw it on a special about barbecue. This is going to sound gross to anyone but a native Texan, but have you ever had barbecue baloney? Makes a wonderful sandwich.

eating peeps.........

GASP! You're not supposed to EAT Peeps! You're supposed to keep them in their little boxes for a year and let them petrify, then throw them out and buy new ones the next year. ;o) At least that's what my husband does. He absolutely HAS to have Peeps for easter EVERY year, and will pout if SOMEBODY doesn't get them for him. It's so funny. Apparently his Mom always got them for him as a little boy and now I'm supposed to. Well, one year I didn't and I heard about it forever. The next year, his Mom got him some, I got him some and both his brothers got him some. Months later our refrigerator was still overflowing with them but I couldn't throw them out. I personally don't like them. To me, they're about like eating weatherstripping with sugar on it. I finally had to sneaked them out. Men are so strange sometimes!

(note to self: Get Peeps from Wal-Mart on the way home)

I'll have to look in my catalogs and see what attachments are available. I hate to have George embarrassed all summer.

There is an old palamino around here. I though they were clipping her but no, just brushing. I bet there was enought hair to fill 2 hefty bags.

barbecue baloney...

Do you mean, like, cooking it on the grill, or actually putting barbecue sauce on it?

Barbecue - Meat cooked in the dry heat of wood coals at about the temperature of boiling point of water 180-215º. Barbecuing can render the toughest lean and the greasiest fat meat into healthy, succulent, savory fare because the long cooking at low temperatures allows heat to be conducted to the center without the exterior drying out. Fat is melted away, basting as it goes, while tissues soften to the consistency of a grandmother's heart. Time on the grill -- 3 - 24 hours. Time in attendance -- 10 minutes to a total of two hours. The long cooking period allows for myriad savory seasonings and provides ample opportunity for pleasurable activities. The consummate barbecuer excels in the latter as much as the former.

They take a whole baloney, like the kind you see in the grocery store deli, and I guess smoke it. Then you slice it (I like it very thin but some people like it thick) put it on bread with barbecue sauce, pickles and sliced onions. There used to be a grocery store here that sold it, I've never made it but it couldn't be too hard. It sure is good.

Halloween just isn't Halloween without candy corn and those little orange pumpkins. Halloween is my favorite time of year and I always decorate the house inside and out with scary stuff.

Somebody let one of my barn cats in the house. He just came in here where I'm sitting and he's wet and he stinks.
