The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FOUR

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Previous threads:

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - thread ONE
The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!
The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

It's hard to photograph horses, I think. I generally think most pictures don't show horses at their best. I always take that into condsideration when I look at a picture of a horse.

To all:

Good morning! We have a beautiful day here in the Hill Country in Texas and unfortunately I have much work to do on the computer but hope to ride this evening.

Gorgeous foto of that Appy baby! That is a goodlooking little critter.

I enjoy this thread and lurk throughout the day. As far as combing out tangled manes, it's just hard work. I wash and then use Cowboy Magic, I find it the best. My gray half-Arab mare gets tangled the worst. But when I use the blue shampoo and really work on her mane and tail she's a picture.

Hope y'all have a great day.

My daughter did very well on her first trail ride. And her pony did well too. :)

I took my other daughter (15 ys old) out this morning on a trail ride. She is just learning to canter.

She did also did well (until we came upon some deer and her dad took off and chasimg the herd while leaving her in the field watching. lol)

Best and cheapest thing we have found for detangling manes is a cheap furniture polish spray...like Behold, although lemon Pledge works just as well. We have tons of burdock here and the only thing that makes detangling that stuff bearable is soaking the tangle with the spray.

Just a question. Did my pic of my babies show up? I'm new to posting and although it shows on my computer, wondered if it showed to you all.

Thanks

Between Sabinal and Kerrville. Just south of Lost Maples State Park. Very rocky country,. much care of horse's feet. Especially my Thoroughbred. I would never have bought a Thoroughbred in this kind of country but I sort of had to take her, from a friend.

Thanks for the advice! Sounds good; Lemon Pledge --- and they'll smell good too!

No, Centaur, your picture didn't show up. Try again. It took me a long, long time to learn to post pictures and I am still having some trouble. Just be sure you have all your symbols placed properly.

good morning! Gorgeous foals!

We can see yours, but only by copying the properties and pasting that in our browser:

There isn't anything wrong with what you did, you coded it right, it's just that Webshots doesn't remote link very well, the links die. You can get a free account at www.snapfish.com or www.yorkphoto.com or photobucket is also good, and then when you link them they stay solid.

I was just getting ready to ask if the problem was linking it to webshots! I mean I thought I could read and follow instructions, but I WAS starting to doubt myself..haha.

And thanks for the comments on the babies. They're half brothers and starting to feel their testosterone, but very talented and people friendly. I can hardly wait til spring to start doing some ground work with them.

Thanks again for your help.

Also, my wife just bought a calf.

The horses don't quite know what to do with it.

Yeah - It's Webshots... now my link doesn't work anymore either. It will show pictures to the frist person who looks, just not the second!

I'm currently usuing snapfish, find the interface nice, and the most important thing is that the links stay rock solid even on busy threads. I can click back on threads over a year old and they are still good.

The only downside is that they always display no bigger than 480 pixels no matter how big your original was, but most of the time that's a benefit too, to the people on dialup.

Good morning, Yes, it's a crap shoot. Hopefully someone will come along that just falls in love with him :)

Today we are going to start putting a halter on him, he's big enough and strong enough that it's time to get a handle on him and start teaching him some manners.

He's super flashy. I don't think you'll have any trouble finding a buyer for him!

Yes, I can just email some, just need to take some good ones that show all of his color patterns.

Now, for a registration, you do need to take pictures and mail them in. What I'm talking about is a research group studing appaloosa genetics.
