*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*
Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
My old mare would do that, she just loved being brushed. When I had to soak her feet, I'd put a foot in the bucket and pull out the brushes :) She'd stand for anything if I brushed her at the same time.
maybe the other one will change too?
My mare gets so relaxed that I have to nudge her over when she starts leaning on me.
What is the best thing to untangle a mane with? Misty has "plaited" hers really good and short of chopping a bunch off I can't untangle it : (
What sort of brush would you use?
I rub in Cowboy magic and it brushes right out.
Sugar didnt lean on me, but I think she went to sleep!
Smokey will back up to you to get you to scratch his butt, he loves it!
Be warned, this reply comes from deaconjim!
"The tangles or the mane?"
I looped the lead rope around Sarah Lees neck today and she walked and stopped with me without me touching her. I couldn't get her to step back yet though. I worked on lunging with the rope today. I still have problems with her walking. When I tug the rope I pull her towards me. I'm getting it though. I haven't got tangled in a long time:')
Sounds like a breakthrough!
lol. She is blond and has thick hair and the stuff shines.
I froze my nuggies off on my ride today in the cold.
You never called the St. Bernards.
70 Degrees? I'm jealous.
The other eye looks like it's getting lighter but more grey than blue. I don't know if the pictures are going to show it well enough but here goes.
The partially blue eye - he's not happy with me holding his nose.
His other eye -
I use a people brush, one of the round ones with rubber teeth and just start at the bottom. I untangle as much by hand as I can first.
It sounds like everything is going well to me.
How do you feel about him having blue eyes? I think it would be cool but I was just wondering if it's a desired trait.
I bought a dog brush. I was buying "cheap" hairbrushes and the handles kept breaking. I think it was about 5 dollars but its stiff on one side and wire on the other. I thought the wire side might be too rough on her skin but she likes it when I comb down her mane and it brushes thru the tail real good.
He's so cute. All legs:')
The key to getting it undone is to wet it and use conditioner or other oil, and don't try to brush it from the top, rather start at the ends and untangle with your fingers at first, always combing the bottom and work your way up.
Pretty common in paints... I take it this is not so common in appys?
He's a very pretty colt!
