*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Previous threads:

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!
The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

I know what you mean about a feed bill. Like I said, we're trying to eat healthier and more balanced. I know that horse feed is very balanced. I've considered just going out and getting some of that, pour on some ranch dressing and have at it. It would probably be better then some of the stuff we've been eating:)

I keep saying "tent caterpillers" real fast to make sure it's not a joke, like a horse named "Hoof Hearted".

I sortof get you eating sweet feed, but I have no response to tent caterpillars ;~D

Last year they were so thick at our beach house it was disgusting to walk across the deck. Was literally like something out of a horror movie. We had none of them here :~D

Is it just the picture? Baby looks much taller than Adge and Thunder when they were born. I know they are all legs but his just look longer to me.

Bah. Hair, just admit that this person clearly has no idea what they're talking about and walk away. It merits no argument, because there's nothing worth arguing. Their arguments made me laugh out lound.

Everything was lousy. The horse is a difficult one, and loves to take off. She was taking me for a ride, and before my trainer gave me a chance to sort things out, she put me on the lunge line. I was so mortified. And the captain of the riding team was there too, and she treats me like I don't know anything as it is, so this just gives her more ammunition. I hate it, it's so frustrating. I need my own horse again so I can get back into the swing of things. I really don't like just taking lessons once a week. But I shouldn't complain. I should consider myself very lucky.

I think it's just an illusion of the way he is standing like that by his momma. He comes up to her belly but yours did too.

They do tend to get ribby if they're nursing. I'd leave plenty of free choice hay and keep doing what you're doing. Don't worry too much unless it starts to get drastic. I wouldn't give her too much more of the mare and foal stuff because it's very concentrated and can make her really more peppy then she needs to be. Do you work her at all?

feeling pretty good, Im hoping to ride again soon. (if deaconjim will help me!) I love our new horse, we are able now to spend a lot more time with them. I hobble about all over the place getting sympathetic laughs from deaconjim and the kids.
I hate not being able to do stuff. Now I have some free time, i am limited, especially because of my arm. I cant risk it not healing right again as it will mean surgery : (
Hows things with you? Did you see all my pics posted earlier today? New horse Smokey and our sons 3rd birthday smile~ Foals together and Lightning in my face. I got some cool pics, especially the one of Smokey posing for Hairofthedog!~ LOL

We havent worked Misty much, I've ridden Sugar more, who foaled only a month ago, and we did great.
Adge is eating grain and hay fine now. So I am sure he will not be nursing Misty as much. When do we start seperating them, to wean them. I thought it was 5 months, but do we start for short periods of time first? What age?

I did. I'm going to post them tomorrow (I promise) because I have to transfer them from one computer to another, and I'm up to my ears in work. It's only three or so, and they're not very good, but they're still pictures of my boy! I've been thinking about looking for him because I would love to have him back.
