*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*
Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
New moms always talk like that ;~D
Forgot - I need some sleep obviously. Our temps are hitting high 50's during the day, possibly 60. Snow is all gone :) Frost still at night, in the 20's but nights will be cold for awhile yet.
He's an Overo paint. 15 years old, with some battle scars.
How is your little one? Has he fed from Mama yet?
Good that it's warming up for you in the daytime anyhow... Do you keep them in for the first couple of days? Or let them out?
Oh - and is momma fine or are you still concerned at all?
What kind of battle scars? What's he done and where's he been up to now?
We have worked some with the foals, but have heaps more to do, and we will enjoy it now that we have the time. Hopefully tommorow after we get more feed, we will work with thwm both more. They seem pretty good, I think they follow their Moms happy dispositions.
Lightning gets jealous when we are with them!
Smokey has a hoof scar right between his eyes : ( he also has a few others on him. They are all healed and old, and he looks fine but he lost a fight bewteen our trainers other horse, that is bigger and much more aggressive.
He is tri-color and the kids adore him.
If we get a chance to work with them tommorow, I'll take some pics for you! : D
Ah... Well, there are worse things than a few old pasture scrapes. I'd like to see the one on his face, that had to have been an ugly fight.
I love a horse that is 15 and older for kids, while most horses are good around kids, nothing beats seasoned and experienced. What kind of riding and training has he had? arena work, cowboy sports or trail? any idea what his history is?
You KNOW that's what I want! :~D
I know I should know more, but all I know is that for the past few years he has been used to teach children how to ride. He is a big but gentle horse : )
I'll run and take a photo of his scar in a little while, It must have caused a massive headache!
I know he has been used for trail riding, but I didnt ask about anything else.
Sometimes that's all you know buyin' horses, but you can get a picture of his experience and temperament from that.
Yeah, it is. Your foal, born, probably a thousand or more miles away from me, started out my Sunday on a good note. Even though I know the science and biology, and have been through some sad foaling as well, it is always a wonderful miracle to me. But then, those who know me on this thread, know I carry my heart on the end of my reins.
when we went to ride him before we bought him 3 weeks ago, he had this masive hoof print on his forehead, i assumed it was still there but covered up by his mane. WRONG! You can still see a small mark but nothing that would really show up on camera. I am glad that it has healed so well! : ) At least he doesnt have to put up with the other horse anymore!
Ah - well if it just took the hair off, he'll be fine then. ;~D
By the way, to add details to his pic, he is a 15 year old Overo paint. He's QH with some spotted Walking Horse which is where he got his color from. (just spoken to trainer!).
Making sure hubby sees the details for the who's who....
I was amazed that it had healed so well, when we saw it last, it looked like it hurt!
I didnt get a chance to se him much yesterday during daylight because I was busy keeping Tommy out of the way.
we missed a feb foal for the calender`: (
When is Beckys mare due to foal?
Sarah Lee did that to me too. I took a pic and didn't see her tongue out until I downloaded:') The lil ones look like they are getting along good and really growing.
