*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

Just read it again, obviously I'm not getting enough sleep - I missed the Benji :)

Not yet, and I did do the math wrong. I was figuring from the first day she bred, not the last. Usually there's only a couple of days difference so no big deal. This time it's ten days.

I'm hoping tonight but no signs yet.

Yes, that's really frightening, not knowing what to watch for, with no cause identified yet. If I lived back there, I'd be watching my horses like a hawk and calling the vet the minute they even looked cross-eyed.

Good morning everyone. Any foal Duchess?
I woke up and said to deaconjim, "Benji slept well last night, he didnt howl or anything". Deaconjim looked at me , shook his head and said " you slept really well last night!"
I guess my pain meds come in useful! : D

I think your new job sounds awesome. Are you going to be doing rehab work?

LOL

My first horse was a spooky barrel horse. She was skinny and had a high wither but since I always rode bareback, that bone and wither kept me on when she would spook. I must have developed callouses because I never got sore.

I think that's a great idea. Might as well get her used to being fiddled with in that area. Sure couldn't hurt anything.

That's so funny, I was searching the puppy ads on petfinder.com this past weekend. I need another dog like I need a hole in the head but I can't help it.

I'd never heard of them. I'm not sure what the point of them are but my son sure wants one. He probably doesn't know what the point of them are, either. They just sound neat to a little boy.

My mare seems more comfortable when I wash her bag (with a mild shampoo and warm water) and rub it with a little Bag Balm to keep it soft. She had many a foal, and her bag is a bit droopy and tends to catch dirt. I don't know if broodmares generally exude wax (like Montgomery's tubercules in human ladies) but it seems to me that she does.
I am scrupulous about keeping her eyes, ears, bag, and dock perfectly clean. She seems to like it.

Dang, I'd like it, too.

He's a sweetheart of a horse but he had some serious problems. His gaits could rattle fillings from your teeth, he was running off after a jump and he didn't vet sound. I figured the running off after the jump was because he was landing on the leg that didn't vet out and was hurting him.

Those pictures of him make him look really pretty but in person, without the saddle, he's not nearly as good looking. He's a little hollow backed and thin.

when I am right i am right and when I am wrong I am right to be wrong so there is no reason to argue with me! LOL I am sure cowboyway will agree with this age old scottish way of life

Aye. Me and my pop got into a disagreement some years back and went about 4 years without speaking. Of course, I was right and he thinks that he was. :~)

Was the disagreement anything to do with insulting horse sellers?

I saw the add and just knew that I had to have one of those puppies! He looks mostly English setter but he has some australian shepherd in the face.
I think deaconjim is just giving up on me~! LOL
I am pretty sure that one of our basset hounds girls, if not both, are pregnant. Puppies should be ready by mothers day if I got the date right and everything happened when I thought it did. They are full pedigree AKC registered dogs and just beautiful! So deaconjim cant understand me going and getting another dog!

Wow, you're gonna have a mess of dogs when the puppies get here. Are you planning to keep them all?

I thought that you would agree! You see how quickly deaconjim jumped in and said that nobody stood a chance arguing with you? I think he got right to the bottom line!

No, If i tried to keep them all, I think divorce papers would be on the table! I will advertise the puppies when they are old enough to go. : (
