*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

Pony prancing pic for today

It's gorgeous out here.. temps in the 60s. If it does this again tomorrow, horses get their first baths of the year.

WOOHOO!!

Just got sent an offer for a Web Administrator job I interviewed for last week, and have accepted it. Will start at 8am Monday.

It will be nice to have a regular paycheck again. It's been stressful at times, scrimping by from contract to contract. And it will be a big readjustment, having to go to work in an office every day after 14+ months of working (now and then) from home. Of course, I certainly don't regret quitting my job to move here! ;~D

Now, I think I'm gonna take my wife out for steak and lobster to celebrate!

That is wonderful, wonderful news, ecurbh, and I'm very happy for you!!

Tell us about your new job! At the risk of sounding like an idiot, what does a web admin do? Is that designing or maintaining or both?

Have a bite of lobster for me! yum yum

In this case it will be mostly maintenance, at least to start with. The website is already in place. This is for a small local start-up company (only a couple years old) that sells nutritional supplements, diet books, and such.

We can't know yet about June till he gets a feel for it. It's on our minds. He already told them about the trip next month for the wedding... that one is already booked.

Yeah, well that's the best way to learn - and my kids actually learned that way too. First rule is "treat every weapon like it is loaded." But, in Utah, you have to have a Hunter's Safety registration to hunt. They all started hunting at age 12 (when it was legal) so they took the class (as required) when they were 11.

Heheh. It's all blue here, so I think that I was the only kid that went hunting. Well, to be honest my dad tried his best, but I couldn't stand the thought of killing an animal. He tried to take me squirrel hunting once when I was little and I freaked once I figured out that we were going to actually kill the squirrels. ... lol. But I always used to watch him target shoot either with a bow or with a gun, because he hunts during bow and gun season for white tail. I could run a bullet press from the time I was in kindergarten. Reloading bullets was my favorite activity.

In fact for father's day last year, I arranged an outing to the range for all of us. I think that I might just make it a tradition.

It sounds like a great family tradition.

My baby daughter (17) now shoots archery semi-competively when shes not dancing. I'm so proud of her! She is strong, beautiful, graceful, a straight "A" student, who knows how to protect herself and is very willing to do so.

Congrats on the job! I have heard of Web Site Manager because my daughter is one at a major credit card company. I still have no idea what it is however, but I'm sure only the most gifted and intelligent people are capable of doing it. ;-)
