The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FOUR

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Thanks.... the land looks pretty rough right now, IMHO... everythings still in the dead of winter... but all that area behind us in the first pics, that used to be solid brush, but the grass seed germinated and it is going to be good and grassy... and shady cool in summer.

Camera is not working, my ISP thinkings probably my Zone Alarm at home stopped it but I can't check until I get home tonight.

No baby yet - well, last time I talked to my husband was an hour ago.

Will you have problems with the needles from the trees killing out the grass...will you have to keep it raked.

I have a problem on part of my property with leaves getting so thick on the ground the grass won't grow. Even grass that grow in shade. And it's too big an area to rake, and leaves just don't burn good. The underlayers stay wet even in summer.

You know what worriers we are...shouldn't she be foaling like now, since she waxed so long ago?

Leaves are a problem... you can see the leaves are thick under the alders in the last pic. Grass will never grow there. It's too dark (shady in the shade ;~D) there too, when the alders are all leafed out.

Needles from the firs are not so much a problem. The firs do shed them, but grass will grow right through it. Being too dark in the woods is more limiting, but that corner gets quite a bit of sun.

There is an herby ground cover that does grow thick in the deep woods in summer. It's really pretty with white or pink flowers. It disappears completely in winter. The horses will eat this, too, though they aren't crazy about it. They walk through and pick at it and smash it more than consume it.

Here's the difference between winter and summer... I've been looking for a summer pic of us in this same spot.

Here's the summer pic, same spot on the trail, but different angle... These are the same small group of alders as in the pic up above..

In summer you can't see through the woods. You can see that herby stuff with the white flowers on the foreground in

So pretty. For some reason from some of the posts you've posted, I didn't think things changed that much during differnt season.

Grass stays green, the firs don't change much, but the woodsy areas, those change quite a bit. :~D It's not as noticeable day by day, but obvious when you look at two pics side by side like that.

Well, I've been expecting it daily. She seems to have waxed up a lot earlier than she usually does, but in general her condition seems better than it usually is too. By that I mean, she's not stocked up like she has before and she doesn't seem quite as uncomfortable. Bob said she did roll today when he took her out in the sun, so she's physically doing good. He also said that her vulva is slightly swollen. Not having the camera is driving me crazy, and him since I'm calling home every hour. I guess I'll have a better feel for it when I get home and can go look at her.

Good morning! Any babes in the night?

I don't remember when mommadoo's new surprise mare is due. 2,745

And who talked about the neighbor's mini donkeys yesterday?

Becky and Looney, let me apologize for my husband... he just remembered that he never made and uploaded Looney Tunes' page! He's too distracted by job stuff. He's looking back to find her pics and do it now.

Tis I with the neighbors mini donkeys. No baby today, so far.

I spent yesterday on the threads about the murdered pregnant Texas woman. Last night the murderers wife said that she didn't know the dead woman was pregnant. Just speculating, and it's doubtful that we'll ever know the truth, but blackmail seems the mostly likely scenario, judging by the wife's statements.
