*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*
Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
We have to find a hell-for-leather little girl Pony Clubber for Pony. We've got a couple of little girls here who could do it - my son's grown too big for Pony, or I'd recommend him. He suddenly shot up over the summer - when he went to the pediatrician for his annual checkup, we found he had grown SIX AND A HALF INCHES in ONE YEAR!
Now of course they operate and stitch everything up and it's quite routine, but in those days all they usually did was put you in a truss, and those didn't work so well.
What happens is that a portion of an intestine or blood vessel gets caught in the hernia and strangulates - gangrene, blood poisoning, death.
We just don't fully appreciate how great our medical care is. It used to be cheap 'cause they couldn't do much.
LOL!! This'll be a birthday you can tell your kids about when they're older....
"Emma, guess where Jim took my on my 37th Birthday....to the Landfill. And I had a cast on my arm and one on my foot..."
You mend quick now, y'hear?
We stood in the center of the pasture and watched her go yesterday, she has a gallop, and then she has FULL AFTERBURNER. And yesterday, she was mostly running all by herself. On FULL AFTERBURNER. I turned to ecurbh and asked "Would you put a child on that animal?"
Happy birthday!
That's incredible! He's got to be eating you out of house and home to support that growth rate. It's amazing how much growing boys can eat. I always wonder where they put it all.
My horse used to have "gallop" and "afterburner" speeds like that. It'a amazing to watch. and scary to think of if you think about being ON him when he did go into afterburner. One minute they're going full tilt (or so you think) and then they REALLY dig in and their legs go a mile a minute. Of course when he goes into "afterbuner mode" there was always the obligatory "buck and fart" Like he's letting off excess octane or something.
I've seen that speed before. Amazingly enough, out of pregnant old Bluebell. I swear she can hit 2 full strides per second, maybe more. I've only ridden her once in the 3 years I've had her because she's always bred, but I'd hate to be aboard when she hits that gear coz it'd definately blow your hat off.
LOFLOL!! Dontcha just love it! You've got to wonder how they ever stay on their feet when they're going that fast and doing all that. On Bluebell the first 3 strides at that speed are always fart propelled. It's hysterical!
Bay always farts if he bucks... For him, it seems like the coughs of an old motor starting up after sitting too long.
The pony will often buck when she goes.... but there's no effort involved. No exertion farts. ;~D
he seems to fart most often when she walks past me into her stall. Every time ;~D
ERR - SHE (pony) seems to fart most often when she walks past me into her stall. Every time ;~D
Smoking again I see:)...still shady in the shade. Becky
Or they fart when you try to pick out their back feet.
So do I. :~)
LOL
I don't know what's funniest, that you fart when you buck, or just the fact that you buck:)

Have a great day.
Try to be on hand when they foal. Miniatures sometimes birth with a placenta that is too strong for the baby to break. Someone needs to be on hand to tear it at the baby's face so they can breath.
Hey where do I get that smiley you use eating popcorn. I really need it:)
