The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FOUR

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

Wow, I saw that picture, but didn't really look at it. I just assumed it was an Arab, just because it was gray. Duh! Gray is not a very common color in TWH show circles. Now that I really look at it, it couldn't look less like an Arab if it had wings. It's a nice looking horse though.

I just got in from riding. Whew, wore me out. I did arena work on Rusty. My son was here and gave me some good pointers on things to work on.

While loping circles Rusty tends to drop his inside shoulder, I was going about correcting it wrong and Charlie told me the right way. Worked like a charm.

Then on barrels, I tried something I learned from that Martha Josey film to keep a horse from shouldering into the barrel, Rusty was bad about that on the second one. I laid old tires by the barrel where he tended to duck in. That helped. And Charlie also corrected me on how to get him set up for the second barrel. I was not releasing my inside rein on the second barrel soon enough and not using my outside leg to drive him over. I was just pulling his head, reining him over, but that made his body arch the wrong way, then he didn't have time to get in postion for the second turn. Probably why he was ducking in. I need lots of practice, there is just so much to remember, and it is all done in split seconds....

But we did accomplish it once real well, and a few times sort of:)

Sounds like a productive ride indeed... You didn't mention when the pictures got taken though ;~D

We're just about to go outside and work and play a little... I need to go out in the pasture where the sun is and soak that in. It's still chilly here in the shade.

Sorry, no pictures, Mack and Charlie were both busy, and I hated to interrupt. Charlie would just stop and watch once in awhile while walking back and forth to the house.

LOL!!

{ducking and changing the subject}

Here's another one of those "Pit Bull Kills the World" stories that ambrose so likes to post, 'cept this time it involved a horse...

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1346240/posts

It'd be a dead pit bull if it was my horse.

Well, I went out and took horse pictures today!

The horses liked getting to be out in the sun too. They don't have much sun in the back forty, which you can see in the background here... still shady in the shade. ;~D

First there was the rolling and tossing of heads.

Then a lap around the pasture... Cyn is a little scary, she likes to come running right at us.

Cute picture of pony.... I think she is slowing down to do a rollback.... she trotted around trying to get the big horses interested in playing...

But they just stood there for the longest time, broadside to the sun. Cyn seems more interested in the Golden Retriever across the street.

Anyone know any children who want to GO REALLY FAST?

She did finally get them to take a few laps around the pasture, but the big horses were reluctant and lazy today.

Felt good to get out in the sun.

Who cares, I like it!

I like the one of Pony putting her brakes on too. She looks like she's doing a fancy little pony-dance.

Against. He posts every article about every pit bull who farts anywhere in the world. At least a few a day.

I don't like pit bulls, but we've been round and round the issue ad nauseum. I didn't make a doggie ping list to talk about dog attacks... I made it for people who ~like~ dogs. So I said I'd ping only one pit bull attack thread per week.

I thought the pony dance one looked a little like that odd Paso Fino gait.
