*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Previous threads:

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - thread ONE
The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!
The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

Twins don't usually die - sometimes one will. If someone is on hand when they are born, if supplemental milk is given, usually one can be saved and frequently both.

Other than making sure you have a safe foaling area and try to be on hand when she foals, what can you do? Pray alot I guess. Can't think of anything else to do.

Fat and miserable :) I'm downloading software right now that my ISP says will get me onto a static IP address with the camera. Since I'm on dialup, probably about an hour to download.

Well, that's a pain in the butt isn't it! I hope you have your call waiting turned off if you have it. Nothing like getting knocked off by an incoming call right in the middle of a long download and having to start all over.

About the only other thing better is picking up the other phone and knocking yourself off. I've done that too. Duh!

About like having a neighbor call just when you're heading out to ride...sigh...second time in as many days. The window of nice weather is so short around here this time of day. It's like the very minute it hits its high, it immediatly starts back down. I had the horses fed and me too:) and was just getting ready to head out when my neighbor called, now I've lost my momentum. And it's almost time to start dinner.

Fortunately, I've got a dedicated line for the computer. Finally got that because I kept getting knocked off or missing important calls. :)

Yeah, we've got one at home too, but only because my husband's employer pays for it. He has to dial in and work from home sometimes when he gets calls at night and on weekends. He's fixing to change jobs next week though so I'm going to have it turned off unless his new employer will pick it back up. It's a little too pricey otherwise for no more than we use it for personal reasons. It sure is nice though to be able to use the computer AND talk on the phone at the same time.

The Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area. Going to be there on April 2nd thru the 8th. There are a lot of stables in the area. Some even have more than the usual 1 hour ride.

I got some momentum up to go take horse blankets off and play with the horses a bit but sunny as it is, it's still shady in the shade of the woods where the horses are, and the little breeze makes it really cold. Too cold to want to ride :~D

Well, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you that you get a good horse. Hopefully they'll have some for experienced riders.

The shame about shade is that it's so shady in the coolness of it. ;~D

Well have fun. That's about 2 hours from my house. I've never been there; passed through it on the interstate. It real pretty and you're going at a time of year when you should get some nice weather.

I just posted this in the HH.... We weren't totally useless without the internet! We picked up a doggie door and installed it yesterday! With these trips coming up, we figure the least stressful place to leave the dogs when we go on trips is at home. And we have a couple trips comin up. This way we can have Katie come by and feed, but they aren't locked in or out. Gidget can even watch TV, though ecurbh wants to put it on a timer so it's not on ALL the time :~D

Here ecurbh is taping up the hole template in the back door.

Here it is all done!

We taped up the flap for awhile, to make it easier to coax them through. Here's the cat checking it out.

Homer was the first to come through unassisted with the flap down.

Gidget was much more reluctant.

But this afternoon she finally did it! no help, but still with coaxing...

Gidget: "Would it have KILLED you to get the next larger size?"

We've been encouraging them to use it by not letting them in or out through the front door when then want in or out. Homer is so far the only one to return and come through the back door without being called and coaxed.
