*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

I may have found out something that might be important. Did you say Belle is Poco Bueno or is it Rocky?

I found it, Rocky is Poco Bueno, not Belle so it shot my theory down.

Good morning, so what was everyone doing yesterday, since they weren't here? I was around, was on FR all day, just didn't have a lot of horse news... "it's cold out, didn't ride today"

I am guessing no new baby news happened either!

I watched JP all day, then went to eat supper in town, then came home and read for awhile.

Mack and I are getting ready to head out for the day, for our spend time together and have fun:) I think we are on the recovery of the empty nest syndrome:). After kids, it's differnt doing things. It gets real easy just to sit and do nothing, but we are both tired of doing nothing:)

Anyway, it started raining thru the night. Looks gray and dreary here today.

Have fun today! Not sure what we'll do today... but my husband is in a goofy ~mood~ this morning.

I may send him outside to do forestry or something.

Good morning. Hope your day goes well.

Rose is out with Emma doing the last of the Christmas shopping. The boys and I are here with my folks, and hopefully I'll get a chance to build some saddle trees today. I'm trying to get a tack room put together. Hopefully I can recover my saw horses today! If all goes well, we may even get to ride some today.

BTW, we'll have an ad out this week for Lightening and Misty. If anyone needs a horse......

Mack has been getting on the internet and finding stuff to do in this area. He never tells me what we are going to do, it's a surprise for me:)

In the past it's always been what do you and to do, and I don't care what do you want to do, I don't care what do you want to do:) etc.

Now he just plans and we go. It's been fun.

I do to! We already tried once to get that pile going, without success... It's hard to get it going when it's really cold, a little damp AND green. :~D

Saddle trees are good! I wish mine had a bar for the pads under it. We have a lot of pads, and they end up piled on top of the saddles, since they really shouldn't sit with the saddles on them all the time, they get flattened.

Just as a design consideration ;~D

Hope you get good buyers for Lightning and Misty.... Selling with foal at side?

It can be hard to get a pile started. Even if it is seasoned. Mack calls me the Firestarter. So far I've never had a pile I couldn't get started:), just sometimes it takes awhile. Feed bags torn open, rolled up and twisted in the middle work best. The twisted part burns slower, and helps dry out the wood and get it started.

Good tip! I am a good fire starter, I think.... but we blew our wad of feed sacks on the last attempt. May have to get creative...

Yes, and he will be here next weekend, I hope. He's a great horse, one I know RoS will be comfortable with. He was used for giving riding lessons for awhile before Tim bought him, and he is "Tim trained", so I couldn't pass him up.

Tim rides him around the field bareback, and without a bridle, just him and the horse (Smokey). RoS and I both rode him, saddled, and he was great. We decided to buy him and then reduce the head count back to 3 (Smokey, Sugar, and Thunder).

Yes, Adge and Misty are a pair, unless Adge gets weaned before we find a buyer.

Thanks for the idea on the saddle trees. I was wondering what to do with the pads. I may put the bar between the trees, or something to that effect.

Good morning. Information I found on another board about HERDA genetic disease traced back to Poco Bueno. Anyway, I didn't realize there were several different forms of it, some less severe that could cause back problems including pain. Thought maybe there was a physical reason for Belle to be difficult when you were riding her.
