According to the egyptians, cats where the guardians of the underworld. Anyway, what makes the Crespi collection so convincing are the large number of artefacts, a lot of which are made of gold. Some archeologists suggested that they are forged by local natives, but it seems unlikely.
They aint the richest people around, to them a chicken is a small fortune. Where would they get piles of gold, unless they melted yet other objects, ofcourse.
