When people are already gun shy about buying swamp land, the missing address is a screaming ommission

It's not far from Ocala.
I know people in that area.
Sounds like a bad ad. But from what I hear, the place is very nice.....if you're retirement age.

Interesting you should bring this up this morning. After watching the commercial this morning, I went and looked it up on the internet. There is a map on the site showing where it is. The houses range from about $100,000 (manufactured homes) to about $350,000, from what I could tell. It looks like it is about 25 miles from Ocala.

And because of their omission of info, they've just gotten free advertising on FR reaching 1,000s of people.

Actually I've been in that area many times and have been to The Villages... it is in central Florida, not far from Leesburg, FL. It is very nice, what I'd call a pretty upscale retirement community. It is not near a dumpy or swampy area at all. You might also have seen it in the news, as President Bush had an appearance there during the last weeks of the campaign. Since you've seen the commercial so many times, it means you watch almost as much daytime TV as I do. I think the ad runs on Fox, doesn't it?

It's a retirement community. Maybe the ad was made by older people, and they just forgot to put the address in it? :~ )

You don't need to know where The Village is any more than you need to know what the soylent green is made from.

You mean there's more than one Village now??!

The original was very pleasant: self-opening doors, best modern design inside, charming eclectic architecture outside, a lovely green, free health care, cute little local taxis, though everything was within walking distance. . .

Of course, you were stuck with a number instead of a name, but you could settle down into a nice retirement---provided you told them what they wanted to know and didn't try to escape.

Of course they won't say where the Villages are. . .too much of a security risk. :-)

Lest we get the bunny with a pancake on its head: I'm refering to the surreal spy drama/psychological thriller in 13 episodes, The Prisoner,
which starred and was produced by Patrick McGoohan and is sometimes held up as 'television's first masterpiece'.

Try waving a Bingo Card around in the general vacinity. That should solve your problem.

"I don't know about anyone else, but when I find information hard to get there usually is a reason......the town the "Villages" is located near must be a dump"

I agree that to omit the location in the commercial is strange and annoying. But The Villages is not a dump. Located in central FL south of Ocala, The Villages is one of the premier retirement communities in the country. It is huge and continues to grow.

"There are a hundred ways to build a village, and every one is correct."

But there is only one way to advertise a village?

Imagine how interesting this thread would be if you had actually interviewed someone, or (gasp) taken the trouble to find out where The Villages actually is.
