In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs as always. Subbie is also here for THREE days. So you better be nice, otherwise you get coal on your face. Im just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words as if can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.
This word is pronounced tuk er
Etymology: I dont know.
Verb:
1) Exhaust, fatigue.
I know what naughty words rhyme with this one, so be careful!
Now I'd watch THAT trash show!
La Mamma Morta (I suppose "My mother's death) by Umberto Gordano. Don't know which opera, though.
The word "diva" thrown around awfully loosely these days. It gets applied to any broad willing to do anything to become a "celebrity". Anyway, I think the last true diva was Callas, the voice wasn't always great technically but what personality came through the singing!
"La mamma morta" is from Umberto Giordano's opera "Andrea Chenier". Thanks, Miss Slip!
I don't even know if she is alive still. She was definitely younger than Ari.
I also love musicals by Andrew Lloyd Weber. But, again, it's a no around here unless Cyber's not around.
He has really good taste in music, but I think my taste is more varied.
As well as being noisy, I thought it could possibly be cracked/broken if it fell from the counter onto the tile floor, so I put it in the appliance garage with the can opener and toaster, which has a tambour door-that way, clever Kitty boy can't get to it to knock it onto the floor-he and Husky girl only get that toy to play with as long as I'm supervising...
I just read your response to Cyber. He said, "You mean that horrible thing we listened to the other day?"
She died in the late 70's. She was one of the greatest interpreters in opera in the 20th century.
LOL....... the point being, I watch football or baseball for the sport - the scenery is just extra, although I do like the scenery....... ;^)
Agreed.........
HAH!! It's Cyber's loss if he doesn't appreciate it. Too bad.
Both of our pets want to have their food fluffed or stirred up periodically-that is weird. Husky Girl likes those horrible smelling lammie munchies and pig ears-she doesn't care for soft treats, and neither does Kitty boy, which is good from a dental point of view.
Omigod! That doctored photo of Byrd is a riot-maybe Condi should post it in the senate to remind everyone what this guy REALLY is-racist with a capital "R"...
My very favorite opera is "Aida"-but my favorite aria is "Un Bel Di" from "Madame Butterfly"-it is just so haunting. I'm not a huge opera fan, but there are some that I like to listen to.
So that means he doesn't bite them immediately, you're telling us Dockery really, really lickories hickory dickory stickories?
But I can't get over the feel she had for the music she sang. Incredible!
Hubby just called to tell me he was turning onto the park road from the highway, which puts him about 15 minutes away-I must go light the grill for steaks-back later...
That Dockery can eat a hickory-dickory stickory in one second flat. We buy them by the hundreds. LOL!
