I managed to parlay it into getting a part time job with insurance first.

Schmart! Very schmart!

Even with insurance, I pay a lot for some of my meds, fortunately I don't take many. I just picked up a refill of my Allegra the other day - the copay had risen to $50! The reason is that the Allegra is not on my insurance company's formulary, so they don't want me to have it. I asked my allergy immunology doc about the alternatives, and he said they aren't as good, and wants me to take the Allegra. Oh well...

Yeah. The last thing in the universe I wanted was for it to be a (non-covered) pre-existing condition.

I think these insurance companies don't want you have anything that is effective expensive. There really are very few drugs on the $10 and $25 copay list. Most are either on the $50 copay or 100% self pay lists.
