Worst Character on Law & Order Finally Leaves (And stupidly comes out as lesbian on show)
NBC Television | January 12, 2005 | GreatOne

Law & Order finally got rid of the worst character to ever appear on the show, Assistant D.A. Serena Southerlyn, played by Elisabeth "Let's See If Can I Open My Eyes Any Wider" Rohm. Made more stupidly ignorant liberal comments than Jill Hennessy did, is a terrible actress to boot; totally uncreditable. Best part was that the character was fired. Worst part was that as she was being fired, she inexplicably says, "Is this because I am a lesbian". Complete joke, which, unfortunately, Dick Wolf puts into this fine show all too often.

I agree with you, and that's part of the reason why I don't watch the SVU, aside from all of the actors outspoken pro-sodomite activism. However, little sprinkles of the character's lives have always been present - the dating between McCoy and Kincaid, Ross' kids, Briscoe's daughter's drug habit, etc. I can take this small amount.

I don't see how this bolsters the leftist agenda.

The mere fact that they made a point of making the character on this show, which will run long after we're all dead on re-runs, is all they're looking for. Never have had a sodomite on the show yet, and I'm sure Wolf is looking for the response he gets, and if positive jam another one down our throats.

Her character was always making somewhat soft-headed proclamations about being too aggressive in past shows, and was always shot down. Sort of like Clair Kincaid's character was at the end (I found that character insufferable - always there with a liberal rant). The set up for tonight's firing was a comment that for the past few months no one in the office ever listened to her. And for good reason!

I would agree with you if they introduced Serena three years ago as a gay character and it was discussed ad nauseum. Her sexuality could have been the prism through which she convicted the guilty. But I never gave a second thought to her sexual orientation until tonight, with two minutes left in the episode.

All I can say is bring back Angie Harmon.

You'd have loved watching Cindy Crawford and Kathy Ireland 'act,' then. Rohm had her assets...but they didn't in any way involve her acting.

I really liked the first ADA, who claimed (I think rightly) he was fired so a woman could get the role, but I did like Jill Hennesy. I also liked the other two women who followed her up; Angie Harmon eventually grew on me, but I think the other one...agggg mindfreeze...was the best. In fact, I've liked all the actors on the show with the exception of the guy who took over as Lenny's partner. I think he's a good actor but he's too heavy--I liked it better when Briscoe was the one who needed to be calmed down.

All-star team from the show:

D.A.: Adam Schiff (no one else is close)

Lead ADA: Jack McCoy (maybe it's because it's been a long time since Ben Stone was there, but I love Jack's zeal and tenacity)

Asst. ADA: Jamie Ross (played the role very even-handed and tough-minded)

Lt: Anita Van Buren (thought she would be a mere affirmative action hire, but has done a fantastic job as being the tough and level-headed lead cop)

Cop #1: Det. Lenny Briscoe (no explanation needed)

Cop #2: Det. Reynaldo Curtis (very down-to-earth and smart; Sorvino's character a close second).

If we're bringing in old lawyers, get Michael Moriarty back.

Check this out for a great interview: http://www.illinoisleader.com/news/newsview.asp?c=5865.

Moriarty's closing quote:

"What is not to admire about the great Sir Winston Churchill? What the Brits forget is that he was half American. Jenny Churchill, his mother, was the greatest influence in his life and she was from the States. Without that influence he would have been a Brit poof."

NEVER watched Third Watch. I occasionally tune in to CSI because my wife loves it, but I loathe that show's silly outfits and super-duper-computer tricks for everything.

I just want to watch a well-written, well-acted show, Wolf. Is it too much to ask that you keep the writers on the story and not the characters? Make the bastards work for their gruel!

Yeah, SVU is far worse than the original. Those silly outfits they wear, it's like someone said, "Hey, let's have the cops wear Armani and Prada and skip the budget for writers!"

man shes hot...

For some reason the gay episode makes a lot more sense than just her typical liberal whelping. I dindt like her character when she was like that but it made for good TV with her playing off Fred's character. Maybe its just becasue I'm older and never realized before, but has Jack McCoy become more "conservative" in his zeal to fight crime than previous seasons?

You're referring to Jamie Ross, played by Carey Lowell. She was my favorite ADA. Richard Brooks (ADA Paul Robinette) and Dann Florek (Capt. Donald Cragen) were both let go to get women on the show, which is why I particularly resented S. Epatha Merkerson and Jill Hennessy. Merkerson has completely won me over, but Hennessy was waaaay too much the little empty-headed lib girl. And I agree with you about Jesse L. Martin, although I'm warming up to him.

Oh in reference to someone says that Ferina's character to come out as gay. I really dont see that happening. They have made him out to be a conservative, Bush-lover in my opinion. Furthermore, I would imagine hes Catholic since hes Italian, from Chicago, lives now in NY, and do to the fact that a good amount of the characters tend to be Catholic. This would probably put him int he pro-life area as past characters have been too.

At least they brought Florek back for SVU. He's a bright spot there...he never wears Gucci, unlike all the other actors.

I've always thought the female captain was just so much more interesting as the other guy so i didn't care one way or another why she got the job. She's consistently interesting. I didn't care for her when she played a guest character, though.

Here's the new ADA, Alexandra Borgia:

Annie Parisse (“National Treasure”) joins the esteemed cast of NBC’s Emmy-winning series “Law & Order” as the new Assistant District Attorney Alexandra Borgia. She debuts in the “Law & Order” episode “Fluency” on January 19, 2005.

“Annie is a terrific actress, and her new character (Alexandra Borgia) is an exotic beauty whose looks belie the fact that she is usually the smartest person in the room,” said Dick Wolf creator and executive producer of “Law & Order.”

Said Parisse: “I'm so excited to be a part of such a great show. I had so much fun when I did an episode several years ago and I'm really looking forward to working with everyone on a regular basis.”

Parisse guest-starred on “Law & Order” during the 2001-02 season and on NBC’s “Friends” in an episode broadcast last January. Her previous films include “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” and “On the Q.T.” She currently stars as Agent Dawes in the blockbuster theatrical film “National Treasure,” starring Nicolas Cage, and in upcoming features such as “Prime” starring Meryl Streep and Uma Thurman as well as “Monster In Law” starring Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda.

Parisse also portrayed Julia Lindsey Snyder on the daytime drama “As the World Turns” from 1998-2001 and again in 2002. Her other primetime guest-starring credits include NBC’s “Third Watch” and “Big Apple.”

When I've watched Florek on SVU a few times, I think it's no comparison that Merkerson is better in the role as head cop on the show.

Don't forget that Angie and her husband spoke in Republican National Convention in July/August...
