I've had some run-ins with a few of these trans atlantic "allies" before. Several of them call themselves 'Redcoats' by way of redressing supposed slurs on their nationality by any means both childish and petulant. The part I am having trouble understanding is the part about hanging around a board they have nothing but contempt for. Any resposes from the old country would be considered mighty white by this dumb yank...
SS Awesome! I will use that line with my next spelling or "Aristophanes" mistake.
You really are an idiot, aren't you?
We spell things properly on this side of the Atlantic you know- let's see what the Cambridge University Dictionary has to say on the subject?
"paedophile UK, US pedophile [Show phonetics]
noun [C]
a person, especially a man, who is sexually interested in children"
http://dictionary.cambridge.org/define.asp?key=57031&dict=CALD
I took a look at your "country board."
I can't recall which of you said that "American conservatism is very different than British conservatism," but could you please expand on that?
Just curious.
Best wishes from across the pond.
SS Anonymous for those that want to be. Yes, posting here could be an act of bravery. You never really know what is going on in their lives.
It would be just as easy to say that a poster who claims that the tsunami was an act of God to kill the perverts, knowing that no-one will ever know who actually made the comment, is cowardly.
SS. I believe that to be the sentiments of some. They may be known or not. If you know different post it.
If you feel so strongly about it, go to Thailand and tell someone grieving for their family not to worry, as at least some perverts bought the farm as well. I will pay your air-fare if you like.
SS What in your mind do I feel so "strongly about". I think you have misread my thoughts and words. ( are you a mind reader? If so your very poor!)
Are you man enough?
SS. I would not go there and espouse the crap you have posted.
Hey, don't knock the reptillian shape-shifters! Aren't they meant to be led by the Queen? If so, then they're _our_ reptilian shape shifters!
Quite true.
But I always wondered about the fellow you had as the head of the Conservatives over there (Before the current one - Ian Heath? I can't remember his name.). I never saw him really do a good job about explaining why folks should vote for him rather than the Labour Party.
And thank you for being our closest ally. But (as Happygal will tell you) I still prefer Beamish to Guinness. ;-)
Cheers. 'Pod.
Thanks for injecting a note of polite sanity into proceedings, fun as they are.
As for the differences between British Conservatism and the American variety, there's the matter of historical development influencing ideology. tjw Mason wrote something excellent on that on the country board, I'd really recommend you read it- about halfway down if I remember rightly.
Because we're two different countries, different issues get magnified in importance- for example your average US conservative is not in favour of any monarchy even abroad, whereasa British Tory would almost certainly be supportive of the crown. American conservatives often find this as difficult to understand as British observers find your discussions about the 2nd amendment.
Making a sweeping generalisation, I'd also say that British Tories tend to be more socially libertarian then merican conservatives (I certainly am), although I'd say this is more of a modern development. The fundamentals however are still shared; small government, low taxes etc.
I'm not the original poster on this, but here's my 2p worth:
American conservatism is a bout upholding a republic and its written constitution; British conservatism is about upholding the monarchy and the unwritten constitution
British conservatism is often more authoritarian than its more libertarian US counterpart eg:
UK conservatives:
Removed the right to silence in the 1980s, banned most handguns in 1996 (Blair did the rest in 1997), now support national ID cards (current Labour govt policy).
Not commenting on the rights and wrongs, but I suspect many of these would be a non-starter for American conservatives.
Then why did you say it?
"It helps that that group of people (Muslims) is among the poorest, least educated and most disenfranchised and oppressed people on the planet - they can't fight back. try it with europeans and their (U.S.) cities would turn to glass craters and their fields would be full of the dead - but they don't because like all bullies, they are cowards."
Try again, rogermellie.
No...Antrim, for the most part. They came to the Carolinas by the boat load in the early to mid-1700's. Their grandsons were the ones who gave your ilk the bayonet at places like King's Mountain and the Cowpens.
Their descendants (myself, and many other Americans on this forum) are Free Men now...not 'subjects' such as yourself. We can own "assault rifles", .50 cal Barrets and long sharp knives. We can go anywhere we want and say as we dang please. We really don't care what you Euro-weenies think about us. We will take offense if you try and piss in our pool. Looks like your buddy rogermellie found that out right quick.
<< .... seen the Tsunami threads about the UK public (non govt) donations (now £60m /$130m and rising), comfortably (per capita) outstripping US public (non govt) donations? >>
Even if that were to temporarily the case it would be but a momentary aberration -- likely predicated on the "immediate-impact syndrome," generated by the fact many many many more Brits and other Euro-peons regualarly visit and/or live and/or retire in South East and/or Southern Asian countries [where there has long been a steady supply of little boys for the likes of, say, Arthur clark, to buggar] -- and would, even in the short term, alter little about a world in which Americans, 6% of the world's population, historically donate 60% of the world's aid. And in which Americans give more to charity [About One Third of a Trillion Dollars annually] -- AFTER TAX -- than the GNP of three quarters of the world's states.
[I have homes in a couple of South East Asian countries, am sitting in one of them Right now -- and witness them all at first hand. As often as not, when they're not engaged in disgusting behavior of one kind or another, the prevailing feeling of what constitutes having a good SE-Asian "holl" seems to involve their sitting about the place pissing and moaning to one another about their shared morbidly-pathological hatred of and "superiority" over all things American. To boot, I have lived and worked many years in the uk, my son lives in Bristol -- and I vist often.]
America's overwhelming generosity comes on top of our having spent Trillions of Dollars the lives of hundreds of thousands of Good Americans and most of the past 100 years or so clearing up many of the bloody-awful once-great-british and other Euro-peon colonial and other foreign f****ps left all over the world's surface [Like the ones, eg, in Indo-China and in Somalia and in Pakistan and in Iraq and in Greater Israel -- and all about the middle east] -- and fighting and winning the wars they cannot stay out of and to which certain of them [Our Nation's "moral superiors"] have brought either whimpering, cowering cowardice, surrender and/or Quisling-appeasement -- or such barbarism as would not have disappointed Vlad the Impaler and/or Ghengis Khan -- and as the consequence of which there is not a single FRee Man on this Earth -- including any of those FRee-loading here, who does not owe his life and his FReedom to the American Nation he so despises!
Why it's enough, as Homer Simpson might have observed -- and probably did, to cause a Good American Man to complain that: "If there's one thing I cannot stand it's an ungrateful ingrate."
Blessings -- B A
