It's their money, Steinbrenner's business, let him do what he pleases.

That's how I see it too.

The Mets now appear intent on opening their wallets to (near) Steinbrennerian levels, challenging George in his own backyard. It'll be interesting to see if any other teams attempt to play payroll catch-up as well.

Even if they do, with their perennial knack for hiring "talent" just a year beyond usefulness, it ought to be fun to watch...

Btw, as for Johnson, I'll believe it when I see the Boss, Torre, and Jeter all up at the podium showing off the Big Unit's new number #52.
