I had an earthquake dream last night.
Was miniature golfing in a big room with a pyramidal roof and open ceiling. Rather crowded.
Sharp vertical jolt. No one panicked. Ten second delay between jolt and lateral shaking. 88 seconds of shaking. Everyone counted the seconds out loud. Reminiscent of a New Year's countdown.
No local damage to speak of.
I estimated 7.3 at 100-150 miles. someone else said far bigger and farther.
Cell phone service out. Talk radio out (music stations still on line). No TV coverage.
Had to walk back to the coastal city in my stocking feet. (Well duh! everyone miniature golfs barefoot), parts of the city looked like down town LA, part of the Hollywood/Los Feliz area. The coastal area had several clusters of sky scrapers arranged in circles.
Ended up sheltering in caves, one of the people got a huge cash award (earthquake donation or something like that) when we asked to share he threw shoes at us. I got some black golf shoes.
Still no news coverage/cell coverage, some people were able to get connections. I wasn't.
I found a thin radio, odd bands, AM went down to 200 kHz, had a TV screen, no news, built in DVD player.
Really odd, like as far as the rest of the world knew nothing had happened.

I'm thinking I maybe over estimated the visibility, I'm not a good judge of distance even when there isn't any fog. Let's just say that it wasn't possible to see very durned far.
