Well, I am sort of fixed on the idea of a ballista...I'd love to make a weapon that could throw an atlatl dart 100 yds or so. I can't figure whether to make it with just a couple x'tra large self bows doubled up or with the twisted cord method. I imagine that nylon rope would work fabulously well for the cord, if that method were chosen, considering its stretch and memory.
Of all moots, this one is one I'd really like to come to, but I can't see clearly yet if I'll be able to go in early June.
Did you find out what your friend's latest project is yet?
:) "bacon eggs"
Yeah.
As for Fonda...guess the tree don't grow very far from the apple :)
Well, we gots a drill and jig saw, let us know when..
I was doing okay until he wanted to nuke New York. Talk about your portfolio taking a hit!
I agreed with the guy who said...."let's go for it!"
Boss Hogg was in the movie.
Need to go pet door shopping.
Sam - that would be a really cool project. Wait till you get the Book of the Crossbow, there are lots of great projects in there. Some buildable some showing 'artistic' license. Fascinating book.
Buddy showed up with his son, we had a very pleasant visit. He had an osage self bow, it was a very challenging stave. We measured it on my bow scale, 43/44 lbs at 26 inches, his drawlength. Sinew patches hold some knots together, other knots were left proud. Nice handle wrap of red cord. He likes polyurethane as his finish, I prefer tung oil or truoil, different strokes. But tiller was spot on, measured evenly the whole way through. Tips ended up at the same line, each inch of the way, though looking at the bow you wouldnt think it would.
The threads don't die, hibernate sometimes, but thankfully they awaken with renewed vigor come spring...
See?
Trebuchet? Cool!
Can one use a stiff cardboard mailer tube to make a potato cannon, or do you need a pipe?
You need PVC pipe for the tube and the chamber... it's a pretty high pressure explosion that shoots the potato...
Just checking in to say I am checking out. We are rearranging the office today, and I am about to take my computer apart.
See you later!
Rearranging the office, huh...
Take-apart as in detach the monitor and keyboard, or take apart as in open up and look at the insides? You should get some compressed air and clean out the dust while you're in there, if it's the second.
I've got TTT on and am working on house pictures. I've done the cleaned-up rooms so far....except for the garage. I don't want to open the garage door for the light.
I have to go change the backup tapes at school... trying to think whether I have any other errands to combine with this one...
I'm doing backups on the desktop. I want to see if I can fix the hang-on-shutdown problem.
Reinstall? If you're going to do that, go ahead and reformat the whole machine, it'll give you a cleaner reinstall.
