The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Thank you! A lot of people thought it wouldn't last...it really didn't seem like it would. It was pretty rocky when we were dating (4 years.) But they underestimated the determination of both of us.

Yikers Ruthee... that blows.

I was about ready to quit yesterday. Stomped outta the office really, really ready to make the call. This Sarbanes crap has got me just climbing the @#$@ing walls. It is completely taking the fun out of it.

Glad to see you too, osage!

I've been so stressed out and angry lately and a half hour with my friends here has made me feel better than I have in days.

So though we'll have to ignore the changes the movie made, I can take from it all the great visuals without reservation.

For some reason, the good guys' hangouts (Bag End, Rivendell, Edoras, and Minas Tirith) seemed to be only a third the size that my feelings say they should be. Otherwise they were perfect. In fact, the setting of Edoras in the movie exceeded anything I imagined.

The bad guys cribs in the movies, though, far exceeded any concepts I had of their size and evil.

The Shire melted my heart, but it still seemed a bit small, even for Hobbits.

Well if they'd have been American Hobbits it would have been bigger. :)

HA ha ha!!!

I'm actually snacking on some fresh baked bread...it was just finishing up baking when I walked in the door. I'm starving. Now I have a hankering for some of OT's wings...there are none better. I eat Walmart's now and then, but they're nothing compared to hers.

Hi Corin! You're coming to Shootmoot, aren't ya? Of all the people I hated not getting to meet, you were the one I most hated not getting to meet.

Evenin' (officially) folks.

Long day. Had our office shindig this afternoon. Since boss's executive assistant is on extended leave fighting breast cancer, I took charge, cause I knew no one else would. Turned out okay.

This evening, wife and I went to a reception for our next Governor, Jerry Kilgore. Plan to be more actively involved. Also talked to candidates for Lt. Governor and Attorney General (a long time acquaintance).

Felt good to be "back" on the political circuit again.

Keene is right near Manchester, I think - it's close to three hours, the way I drive. Two and a half, at least.

I sometimes wish concerts didn't hafta be at night. I'd be happy to drive that distance during the day, but at eleven or after, when I'm fighting to stay awake? Eehhh...

My paperback Hobbit and LotR are long gone. With me now are the hardcover editions I got for Christmas 1982.

The identical edition of The Hobbit-- a boxed volume in green faux leather-- is currently for sale at my local B&N.
