The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Heh...I shouldn't let it bother me...but I'm always very aware when someone behind me is angry because I'm going slower than they want to or when I'm not absolutely positive where I'm going. And that makes me a worse driver. It's something I need to get over.

A long road trip would go a ways toward fixing that, I think. May be just what the doctor ordered.

Stephen King was my first love. Reading love, that is. ;-D

Christine, Cujo, Salem's Lot, It, Pet Semetary, The Shining, The Stand, Firestarter...

Lots of good stuff. Then he got lazy...and weird(er).

I like Stephen King too... though I think he should just be arrested for the thoughts he has. Something's just not right with that man.

Hi Suzi - um, well, lets just say that she is a bit ambivalent about doing this. Shes mostly concerned about leaving her friends, but God has worked it out that we already have people in the neighborhood. PLus there is just no going around the fact that we simply cant afford the private school anymore, and I loathe the idea of putting her in the public school.

She's interested in doing the homeschool, but I think its the fear of the unknown that she's dealing with. She gets excited one day, and sad the next.

I had thought it would be a good idea to do something like you suggested! :D I hadnt talked to the teacher about doing something like that yet.

hehehehe...couldn't agree more. It's disturbing to know that someone with that kind of thought pattern roams around Maine at liberty.

I remember the first time it really ~hit~ me that he was just plain sick. But I won't say it on-thread for obvious reasons.

I kept reading and finished the book anyway though. *grin*

I guess we're all fortunate that he chose writing as a career instead of becoming a serial killer.

As far as we know.

I'm sure his neighbors already comment on how "quiet" he is. *shudder*

Have you tried any books by the author Jeffrey Deaver?

He writes murder mysteries, and one JenB might enjoy is "The Blue Nowhere" about a computer hacker the cops have to stop. It has enough computer details to make OB"s and my eyes cross, but that can be skipped without losing the story. It's out in paperback, so you can probably get it at a used book store.

We just found another good author, G.M.Ford. His stories are almost all based in Seattle, and he evokes the climate the way I imagine it. Fast, fun reads.

I saw a few books by both of those fellas at the store, but didn't give them more than a passing glance. Thanks for the tip!

I'll be sure to grab a couple on my next trip to the Book Barn.

I'm gonna read a few more chapters of my trashy romance novel and hit the hay.

See you all tomorrow!

And thanks again for remembering my birthday.

Nighty night!

Interesting comparison...especially the median age and income.

Of course, housing is a lot cheaper here...but even so...

Mmmm...Book Barn...

Ya know what's a little sad? One of the things that's pushing me to get outta here is the death of the town I live in. It's just gone downhill over the past decade...there's not much left. But there's always been a good used bookstore.

It's closing in May. My last tie...is severed.

Heh.

I should head to bed, too. *yawn* Maybe I'll sleep better than I did last night! I was really worked up and upset.
