Rosie - I've been thinkin'. You're right to start clearin' out the house. I think you do that and put it on the market. When it sells, you'll have a bit of time before closing, you can put in your notice at work. Then pack up Vansama and head west young lady!

I see that the live thread about the attempted Democrat coup in Congress today reached over 2500 posts in a few hours. Anyone have a quick summary, other than praising Senator Boxer for her service to the political system!?
And with that intro, Corin, I think I'll make this a bit more formal, just so y'all can keep a fire lit under me...
It's a new year, and with the new year, I think it's time I finally stop dilly-dallying and complaining about how my current life, job and location aren't working and actually get going. I've done a lot of talking over the past few days to friends both here and in the "real world", and they agree. To that end, I'm going to start actually putting a real plan into effect.
I want to clean up the house, sell it (as is, without redoing wallpaper or anything because I just don't have the cash to do so - hopefully I can get a decent price even so), relocate to Colorado, and find a new job. I'm going to want to give up about every other day, and that's where you folks come in. Slap me if I start saying it isn't possible, OK? ;-) And I can use all the prayer I can get.
I'm also for a certainty going to have to get rid of some things I'd rather not get rid of - my guitar, for one. It's likely a small price to pay in the long run, but I'm going to take flak for it and it's going to be rough. And I hate change and adventure. It won't be easy. I'll try not to drive everyone up the wall...

The only part I couldn't figger out fer ya was the critters. Jen'll just have to get a bigger apartment.
And, I don't get the selling of the guitar. Wouldn't you plan on driving out? Seems like it would fit in Vansama.

I haven't been around to follow the Boxer Rebellion...but they didn't get nowhere with it.
But, you should make some money on the sale of your house. You've been in it at least 2-3 years, right? Seems like you should come out of closing with some cash. I don't do real estate, but surely there's someone here in the Hole that can talk you through it.

Just the ball, at least. We didn't bother trying to get tix for the inauguration itself. We did that last time and it was miserably cold. Watch the weather be glorious this time. *sigh*

I moved in in November of 2001...so just about three years.
But I think when I moved in, I figured it'd be four years before I could leave and just break even, let alone come out of it with cash. If anyone knows how I can figure it out, I'd be forever grateful for any assistance!
You have my bow, such as it is. I'm very good at nagging, though. The hardest part about these big changes is overcoming the inertia of our comfort zone and just doing it.
I was in your shoes right out of college. Packed up, moved across country, took a big new job. It was vey scary. And I'm glad I did it. Have had a lot of wonderful life experiences as a result.
We did the Bush 41 Inauguration. Wife was 4 months pregnant. After the ceremony we watched the parade from the bar at Bullfeathers. Best way to do it. Went to the ball at the Kennedy Center. Spent too darn much money.
I took Jr. to the swearing in last time. Thought he needed to see it.
We were gonna do the FR ball, but it just got too complicated with work and me having to go to Kentucky the next week for the alumni board.

I wonder...that'd be nice! But there are plenty of little repairs that I just can't do....rooms that should be repainted, cracks in the ceiling, ugly wallpaper. So...I don't know if I can ask more or not.
I guess it remains to be seen. And if I walk out of here with nothing...well, it could be worse.
I did the military thing in Europe right out of high school...but it was different because people told you where to go and where to stay and what to do when you got there. ;-) Having to find a job in a strange place isn't something I've ever done.
But I guess it's time I grew up.

Rosie.... just checking up and I am excited that you are going to make it a go. Super. Good luck getting ready, and stay strong against those who might say it can't be done. I hope you get some help and not hinderance getting the house ready.
People pick up and move all the time, remember that. :~D
A lot of it will depend on the market. Real estate here is booming, so we could just sit here and do nothing and our house would "increase" in value. It's nothing like DC or San Francisco, but the market is pretty good.
And...we have heat. ;-)
Way to go Rosie. I've always found that the hardest part is making the decision to undertake a major life change, and that is behind you now. ;~)
