The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I only ever rooted for Michigan in the past when they played Ohio State or Notre Dame...

I'd probably do the same....

HOLY COW! Did you just see that?

Heh, yeah... I don't think Auburn can make a claim for #1 after this game...

Tech faked a punt and scored. It's Auburn 16, Tech 13.

Less than 2 minutes. Auburn has the ball.

All your posts appear formatted very tight vertically...
Do they look different than ours to you too?

It's a weird question, but not as weird as Corin recognizing a dude in an orange boa.

Yeah, and they were reviewing their schedule earlier.

It's over, but what an end!

The Rose Bowl sorta p!ssed me off on a certain level, though. The end of the game was great but the bulk of it was that danged midwest-school sorta "three yards and a cloud of dust" stuff.

What is it with these ground-based teams? I know there's a difference between the western and the midwest types of football... but damn... throw the ball once in a while, will ya?

:-)

Yes. I put a < p > < /p > around each line, and it seems to make a difference in the formatting of the post.

If I post just plain text without the paragraph tags, the system puts an extra blank line at the end of the post.

Heh, did you see that UofA beat the snot out of ASU in basketball yesterday... not that I would rub it in, or anything. ;~)

But seriously, ASU is not too bad this year, and has a chance to make a respectable showing in the Pac-10.

Aha! I've been wondering about that for a while.

Heh, why throw it when you have guys who can run it for 60 yards and a touchdown?

Well, good. If that happens, you are advised to seek medical assistance.

I missed that... but good on ya. :-)

Just checking: that's the game with the big orange ball, right?

Basketball... like hockey only without all the tall people.

Yah... fine it is when it happens. It's the unending three-yards-and-cloud-of-dust plays that tick me off. :-) It's just a difference in theory... but IMHO goes a long way to explaining why Bo Schembechler was a legendary coach, a great among greats, but yet never seemed to win the Rose Bowl. A good long game has an advantage over a good short game. Just MHO.

In looking at the source code, it looks like it has to do with the placement of the <br clear="all"> tag... on the formatted posts, it's placed within the paragraph tags, and outside of them on the non-formatted posts.
