Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Though we pass them by today...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

IRRC, the M44 was the updated M91 Moison Nagant. 7.62mm Rimmed. It was the standard issue for WWI and WWII. The long rifle versions were being converted to short rifle configuration when WWII interupted the process. I believe the M44 was the standard for the Warsaw Block and China made them as well.
The folding needle bayonet being an interesting alteration of the original removable one. A number of these came into the country via capture, as late as Vietnam era. Lots came in during the 80's.
Lisa's looks better than average. Ammo is a bit problematical but Norma makes a good hunting load. Split breech receiver and straight bolt makes mounting a scope a challenge.
The M91 was also made in the US for the Czarist government, by Remington and GE/Westinghouse. After the revolution, they weren't shipped and some were used for WWI and WWII training and I believe issue to Merchant Marine. Seem to recall seeing photos of that.

Thank you for saying nice things about my bows, I like them too, but I need to report that if anything is right about them, it's because our resident master bowyer, osagebowman, gave me a lot of help, including pointing out a design, but also gave important tips on all the key things to look out for and how to make them right. Plus he let me ask a lot of questions!

We had a HUGH rib roast, mashed potatoes and gravy, squash, peas, and trifle for dessert. Plus eggnog and wine, and fudge was available.
I prolly don't need to eat for a week or so...

She likes the gun because it has nice iron sights and she doesn't like scopes. Thinks they get knocked out of alignment too easy.

We had homebrew and white wine and eggnog with choice of nog. I left the Maker's Mark and Captain out at the house. Hafta get it tomorrow.
*sniff*
Never got around to really having any, though.

Who was it that liked the TV show "Monk"?
One of the CA brothers sent us the pilot episode as a Christmas present - on DVD. We really enjoyed it! Kind of a drag to only have the one, though. Grrr.

Lilfreeper has talked about Monk, Ramius likes it too.... We still haven't caught an episode on TV yet... I don't know when it's on but never when we are browsing around.
To: RosieCotton
Who was it that liked the TV show "Monk"?I like "Monk" a lot, with the following qualifications:
Some of the thinking by both Monk and the bad buys are absolutely brilliant. Others are so-so.
If it involves firearms, all their thinking comes from some Hollywood anti-gun alternate universe.
"We know he was in the military, so he's allowed to own a gun."
"If the police found the fired casing, they would have checked the files on casings, and traced it to his registered gun".
"The fired bullet would have been traced to his registered gun".
Aside from those shortcomings, it's alternately fun and painful to watch Monk operate while teetering on the brink of insanity.

I believe there's a marathon on USA network sometime this weekend. Maybe on now. My mom is stopping through and we're catching up on moooooovies.
Saw "Meet the Fockers" today. Vey funny. Lots of sexual humor, most of it in questionable taste. I thought it better than the first one but Big'ol disagrees.
