Inside the Raincloud

Up inside the raincloud, the droplets do confer.
And though they seem quite uniform, they rarely do concur.
Droplet One says “What’s the use? No one will even look.”
And Droplet Two says “I’m not ready! I didn’t read the book!”

The bigger Droplet Ten responds, “Now, steady on!
Don’t fall down on us now.”
Just get into position, we’re about to make a bow.”
“Don’t you mean a rainbow?” “No, I said let’s take a bow!”

“Your little bending motion, will change the light’s return,
And give a little color for the fame that you will earn.
Now, some of you will get a chance to use your other hand,
And bounce another color if it comes perchance to land.”

“We’ll do a double duty, and make a pretty show,
And the people will exclaim at all the colors that we show!!”
He lined up all the boys with quite a sparkle in his eye,
And he didn’t give the little ones a chance to even cry.

The curtain raised about them and the light was shining clear,
And everyone that he could see was grinning ear to ear.
Their bright smiles shone back out to where the sun had shone before,
And the rainbow that they formed would now become the stuff of lore.

They held the pose until they splashed down on the ground,
And made a lot of merriment as they were dancing ‘round.
They formed into their rivulets to start the trip back up,
And all exclaimed their luck to be a droplet in God’s cup.

A Child’s Prayer

Lord, Thanks for listening, and taking the time,
I know that you’re busy, out dealing with crime.
I heard on the news that some people are bad,
And just like you, Lord, that makes me feel sad.

I’m thankful You gave me this wonderful bed,
That keeps me so warm while I’m resting my head,
And thanks for a Mommy who makes me feel good,
So I’ll want to be like her and do what I should.

And thanks for a Dad who is ten times as strong,
As the meanest bad guy who might ever do wrong.
Thanks for the food that you gave me today,
And thanks for reminding me I need to pray.

Thank You for Ruffy, who stays at my side,
He’s a really good dog but I can’t keep him tied,
So please watch over him when he gets himself out,
As You do over me when my folks aren’t about.

I’ll pray for our leaders to keep us from harm,
And if they need help that You’ll lend them Your arm.
I’ll pray for our enemies to learn what is right,
And ask for a favor, Please show them the light!

Lord, for myself I don’t really need much,
A toy, or a ball, and some cookies and such,
Just do what you do so I’ll know you are there,
And please listen real close when I tell you my prayer.

I’ll come back tomorrow. We’ll talk once again,
But I’ll bet you know now what I’ll ask you for then.
I don’t mind to ask, though, ‘cause You love a kid,
Just like we love Your Son, for the things that He did.

Good Night to you, Lord, and You rest easy too,
There shouldn’t be much more that You have to do,
With most of us sleeping, You can get Your rest now,
And Thanks to You, Lord, we got through it somehow.

A comet falls

In distant Oort a comet drifts
Until a chance does orbit shift
And toward the sun the comet falls
To answer Sun's siren's call.

When once the comet was undisturbed
Its orbit now, has been perturbed.
Descent begun, the final run
The comet's glory revealed by light of Sun.

And as the layers that guard the heart
Of comet's deepest, most secret part
Are peeled away, day by day
A glorious tail of debris is made.

Until at last, the heart is bared
The comet fears, and it is scared
To stand before the Universe
Without a shield, its heart declared.

Now, at last, the comet falls
Into the Sun's fiery walls
Consumed, subsumed, the comet's last
Is naught but a brief, swift flash.

In truth the comet fell
As the laws compelled
And the comet passed beyond
To either heaven or into hell.

Tu es ma muse. Tu m'inspire!
Tu me donne le savoir dire!

Closet Christians

Read: Matthew 5:13-16

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. —Matthew 5:16

Bible In One Year: Ezekiel 18-19; James 4

A businessman gave his heart to Jesus as a result of a Billy Graham evangelistic event. When he told his co-workers, his Christian business partner was elated. But the new believer hadn't known about his faith, and said, "You know, you're one reason I resisted becoming a Christian for several years. I figured that if someone like you could live a good life and not be a Christian, there was no need for me to become one."

A friend of mine and I were doing business in a local bank. He needed to change a $100 bill. By mistake the teller counted out six $20 bills. When my friend discovered the error, he walked back into the bank and quietly told her what had happened. The teller said, "I can't thank you enough. I would have had to make up the difference. Obviously, you are an honest man." He replied, "The reason I am honest is that I'm a committed follower of Jesus Christ. Giving you back the money is something He would want me to do."

Christians should lead exemplary lives. But it's important that we reveal the Source of strength and life who enables us to be different. As Jesus said, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16). —Haddon Robinson

Like a brightly shining light
In the darkness of the night,
We will stand for truth and right—
Let the whole world know! —Peterson

Very nice but after all the rain we've had and will have here in the sunny south, I would have preferred a poem about livestock.

I am so crabby when it rains. Just ask Laura Earl.

He's big time crabby when it rains, and the dog stares out the window in disgust, while the cat sits on the back of the couch whipping the back of my head with her tail. AND we have rain in the forecast thru Wednesday. Cheers!

At least you don't have to go out into the wet yard to do a poopie.

"Naw. I want one about cows and goats."

Livestock Poem

Why do we call it livestock?
We’ve no deadstock to support,
I guess it just sounds better,
In the evening stock report.

The frisky lambs and goats do play,
And frolic in the heather,
But cows seem just to amble along,
In any kind of weather.

They don’t let raindrops get them down,
In fact, they like the rain,
I guess that proves it’s spongiform,
-- The wetware of their brain.

I don’t quite see just how it is,
They aren’t disturbed by weather,
Unless they’ve grown accustomed to,
The smell of old wet leather.
