Um, dude. I think he was gay...

But this line IS PRICELESS:

This is not the first time Greeks have been angered by suggestions Alexander was homosexual and had affairs with young men.

First of all, he wasn't gay. He might have been bisexual, but the evidence for that is pretty sketchy, so it's impossible to know. He had a very close male friend, Hephaistion. He weaped over him when he died, but that doesn't mean anything. He never referered to him as his lover, nor are there any first hand accounts that refer to the two as lovers.

There is hearsay evidence that Alexander and Hephaistion payed homage at the graves of Achilies and Patroklos, Alexander to Achilies and Hephaistion to Patroklos. But that's it. Nothing else. Nada. Ziltch.

On top of that, according to Arian, one of Alexander's leutenants offered to send him an attractive butt boy captive. Alexander reportedly reacted in disgust and said he never partakes of such vices.

So there you have it. Was Alexander gay? No. Was he bi? Maybe, but we really can't tell.
